Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 28/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning issued for coastal waters north of
Cairns.
A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for southern Gulf waters for Sunday
morning

Weather Situation
A high over the Western Great Australia Bight is extending a ridge into
Western Queensland with a dry and cool  SE to SW airstream over state.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Dry and cool over most of the state apart from some isolated showers about
the northeast tropical coast.
Fresh to strong SE winds over the tropics. Moderate to fresh SW to SE winds over
the remainder.
Forecast for Sunday
The southern high moves into the central Great Australian Bight and maintains
the cool dry southerly airstream over Queensland. Dry over most of the state
apart from some isolated showers in the northern tropics.  A chilly morning over
southern half of the state with extensive early frost over most of the interior,
including along the ranges in the southern tropics. A moderate to high fire
danger in the northeast tropics.
Forecast for Monday
The southern high now approaching Tasmania  with easing winds over
Queensland. Remaining dry over most of the state apart from isolated showers
about the northeast tropical coast, now extending further south. A chilly
morning in the south and extensive early frost over the interior.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high rapidly weakens near Tasmania and winds continue to weaken over the
state. Early frost now extending west into the Channel Country but contracting
further south over the southern tropics. Once again dry over most of the state.
Isolated showers now developing about exposed points of the east coast.
Forecast for Wednesday
The southern high weakens and extends around a blocking low near New Zealand.
Moisture continues to increase about the east coast with isolated showers
occurring about exposed points. Extensive early frost over the southern and
central interior, including the southeast.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
A weak high cell moves over southeast Queensland on Thursday then weakens
further. Fine weather continuing over most of the state through to Saturday with
isolated showers decreasing about the east coast. Isolated showers remaining in
the northeast tropics. Early frosts to continue over the interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Sunday.
