Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for southeast Gulf of
Carpentaria waters for Saturday morning.
A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for waters between Cape Melville and
Innisfail, and for waters south of St Lawrence including Hervey Bay and Moreton
Bay, for Saturday morning.

Weather Situation
A slow moving high over the Tasman Sea and an associated ridge of high
pressure over eastern Queensland are weakening. A surface trough lies over the
centre of the state and will move rapidly eastwards and be off the Queensland
east coast by this afternoon. An associated upper trough will move eastwards
across the southern border of the state. A high over Western Australia will
strengthen a ridge over Queensland in the wake of the trough.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Isolated showers over eastern districts, with a thunderstorm or two over the
southeast corner, clearing to the east during the afternoon. Isolated afternoon
showers over the southwest. Fine and mostly sunny for remaining central and
northwest districts. A cool morning with possible morning frost about the
southern and southwestern interior. A high to very high fire danger over the
Warrego and Maranoa.
Forecast for Saturday
A new high will move into the Great Australian Bight and direct dry SW to SE
winds across much of the state. Some cloud will develop over the southern
interior, though only possible light showers or drizzle is expected about far
southern parts of Darling Downs. This cloudiness combined with fresh and gusty
winds will lead to rather bleak conditions over the southeast inland. Isolated
showers to persist in an onshore wind flow through northern Cape York Peninsula
and Torres Strait. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Temperatures generally below
average, particularly during the morning with early frost patches possible
through the interior.
Forecast for Sunday
The high over the Great Australian Bight will move slowly east, maintaining
the firm ridge over southern Queensland. The upper level pattern will remain
benign, and this combined with the dry air over most of the state will lead to
fine and mostly sunny conditions. Isolated showers will persist in an onshore
wind flow through northern Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait. Areas of early
frost about the central, southern and southeast interior.
Forecast for Monday
The high will slip slowly southeast towards Tasmania continuing to circulate
dry and cool S to SE winds across most of the state. Isolated showers will
persist about eastern Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait with fine and mostly
sunny conditions elsewhere. Early frost areas likely across the central,
southern and southeast interior.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
The high will move over Tasmania and begin to weaken, though it will continue
to dominate the weather across the state during the outlook period. Another dry,
cool SW wind change will most likely move north from the New South Wales coast
into southeastern Queensland overnight Monday into Tuesday reinforcing the dry
and cool conditions over most of the state. Morning frosts to continue about the
central, southern and southeast interior. Isolated showers along the north
tropical coast and exposed parts of the east Queensland coast are likely in the
S to SE air flow.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Friday.
