Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 26/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A slow moving high over the Tasman Sea and an associated ridge of high
pressure over eastern Queensland are weakening. A surface trough lies over the
centre of the state and will move rapidly eastwards and be off the Queensland
east coast by Friday afternoon.  An associated upper trough will move eastwards
across the southern border of the state.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Isolated showers over much of eastern Queensland, tending scattered with
isolated thunderstorms in the far southern interior. Remaining fine in the west.
Moderate SE to E winds over the tropics, tending light and variable over the
southeast; winds shifting moderate to fresh S to SW over western parts of the
state.
Forecast for Friday
Isolated showers will continue over eastern districts with this activity
clearing to the east during the morning and early afternoon as drier air moves
in behind the trough. Some cloud will also affect the southwest of the state
with some light showers or drizzle, though given the dryness of the wind flow
little or no rainfall is expected. Areas of early morning frost are possible
about the southern and southwestern interior.
Forecast for Saturday
A new high will move into the Great Australian Bight and direct dry SW to SE
winds across much of the state. Some cloud will develop over the southern
interior, though only possible light showers or drizzle is expected about far
southern parts of Darling Downs. This cloudiness combined with fresh and gusty
winds will lead to rather bleak conditions over the southeast inland. Isolated
showers will persist in an onshore wind flow through northern Cape York
Peninsula and Torres Strait. Conditions should be fine and mostly sunny
elsewhere. Temperatures will be generally below average, particularly during the
morning with early frost patches likely through the interior.
Forecast for Sunday
The high over the Great Australian Bight will move slowly east, maintaining
the firm ridge over southern Queensland. The upper level pattern will remain
benign, and this combined with the dry air over most of the state will lead to
fine and mostly sunny conditions. Isolated showers will persist in an onshore
wind flow through northern Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait. Areas of early
frost in the interior.
Forecast for Monday
The high will slip slowly southeast towards Tasmania continuing to circulate
dry and cool S to SE winds across most of the state. Early frost areas are
likely across the central, southern and southeast interior. Isolated showers
will return to the northeast tropical coast north of about Cardwell with fine
and mostly sunny conditions elsewhere in the state.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
The high will move over Tasmania and begin to weaken, though it will continue
to dominate the weather across the state during the outlook period. Another dry,
cool SW wind change will most likely move north from the New South Wales coast
into southeastern Queensland overnight Monday into Tuesday reinforcing the dry
and cool conditions over most of the state. Isolated showers along the north
tropical coast and exposed parts of the east Queensland coast are likely in the
S to SE air flow.
