MELBOURNE - Jul 26/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system over southwestern Victoria will move to central Bass Strait by this evening. The low is forecast to weaken overnight tonight as it moves slowly east. An associated cold front will move across Victoria on Friday as another low pressure centre develops over the Tasman Sea. The next cold front will clip southern Victoria late on Saturday then a strong high pressure system will develop south of the Bight. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayAreas of rain developing over most districts but only isolated showers in the Mallee and isolated showers clearing over central and eastern Gippsland this morning. Isolated thunderstorms possible in the west during the afternoon. Snow above 1100 metres. A cool to cold and mostly cloudy day with moderate to fresh west to northwest winds.Friday 27 JulyScattered showers over southern and mountain regions and isolated showers over the northern plains. Snow above 1100 metres. Cool to cold with moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds extending throughout.Saturday 28 JulyIsolated showers, more extensive about the coast. Snowfalls above 1200 metres. Cool to cold with moderate west to southwest wind, fresh along the coast.Sunday 29 JulyIsolated showers mainly on and south of the ranges, more extensive about the coast. Snowfalls above 1200 metres.
