MELBOURNE - Jul 24/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system to the south of South Australia will deepen today before moving towards western Victoria tonight. The low will drift across southwestern Victoria Thursday morning before reaching Bass Strait during the afternoon and evening and then reaching the Tasman Sea on Friday. A cold front will approach southern Victoria late on Saturday. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayCool and cloudy with patchy rain developing in the west and over the eastern ranges by the afternoon, then slowly extending to most districts although little, if any rain reaching Gippsland. Rain becoming more extensive in the southwest and about the northern slopes of the divide by the evening. Snow above 1400 metres. Moderate to fresh northerly winds, tending northwesterly later in the west.Thursday 26 JulyAreas of rain over most districts but only isolated showers in the Mallee and across East Gippsland. Snow above 1200 metres. A cool to cold and mostly cloudy day with moderate to fresh west to northwest winds.Friday 27 JulyScattered showers over southern and mountain regions and isolated showers over the northern plains. Snow above 1200 metres. Cool to cold with moderate northwest to westerly wind tending southwesterly.Saturday 28 JulyIsolated showers, more extensive about the coast. Snowfalls above 1200 metres.
