MELBOURNE - Jul 23/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters between Cape Sidmouth and Cairns. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A large high over Victoria will continue to move eastwards and reach the New Zealand area on Wednesday. The ridge along the east coast of queensland will begin to weaken from Tuesday onwards. A surface trough will enter the south-west of the state late wednesday and pass off the east coast during Friday. An upper trough will move across south-eastern australia and southern queensland during Thursday and Friday. Forecast for the rest of Monday Isolated showers about the east coast south from Fraser Island and north of Cardwell. Fine elsewhere. Moderate S to SE winds becoming fresh to strong along the east coast. Forecast for Tuesday The high will move into the Tasman Sea and maintain a ridge along the east coast. Isolated showers will continue along the east coast south from Fraser Island and north of Cardwell. Dry and sunny conditions will occur elsewhere. Morning frost areas will occur over the south-east and southern interior. Moderate S to SE winds will occur in most areas and tend fresh along the east coast. Forecast for Wednesday The high will reach the New Zealand area and extend a weakening ridge onto the east coast. Winds along the east coast will tend more onshore so isolated showers will occur in most east coast districts. Dry and sunny conditions will continue over the interior. Morning frost areas will occur over the south-east and southern interior. Moderate to occasionally fresh SE to E winds will occur along the east coast and will shift E to NE inland. A surface trough will enter the far south-west late in the day. Forecast for Thursday The surface trough will move into the eastern interior as the ridge along the east coast continues to weaken. Isolated showers will occur over all eastern districts before the change mainly in the afternoon. In the wake of the trough dry and cooler S'ly winds will spread across the west of the state. Before the trough, winds will shift to the NE over southern districts. Forecast for Friday The surface trough will move off the coast during the afternoon as dry moderate to fresh SW to SE winds spread across most of the state. Conditions over the south of the state will become quite unstable as an upper trough amplifies over south-eastern Australia. As a result, isolated high based showers may occur over the south-east mainly in the afternoon. Isolated showers driven by the SE trade flow will become confined to northern Cape York Peninsula. Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday A new high will move slowly across the Great Australian Bight during the period and will dominate the weather across the state. The high will circulate dry and cool S to SE winds across most of the state. Some morning frosts will occur over the south-east and southern inland. Isolated showers will most likely again occur on the exposed east coast from overnight Sunday onwards north of about Cardwell and south from Fraser Island.
