Weather Situation
A large high over Victoria will continue to move eastwards and reach the New
Zealand area on Wednesday. The ridge along the east coast of queensland will
begin to weaken from Tuesday onwards. A surface trough will enter the south-west
of the state late wednesday and pass off the east coast during Friday. An upper
trough will move across south-eastern australia and southern queensland during
Thursday and Friday.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Isolated showers about the east coast south from Fraser Island and north of
Cardwell. Fine elsewhere. Moderate S to SE winds becoming fresh to strong along
the east coast.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high will move into the Tasman Sea and maintain a ridge along the east
coast. Isolated showers will continue along the east coast south from Fraser
Island and north of Cardwell. Dry and sunny conditions will occur elsewhere.
Morning frost areas will occur over the south-east and southern interior.
Moderate S to SE winds will occur in most areas and tend fresh along the east
coast.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high will reach the New Zealand area and extend a weakening ridge onto
the east coast. Winds along the east coast will tend more onshore so isolated
showers will occur in most east coast districts. Dry and sunny conditions will
continue over the interior. Morning frost areas will occur over the south-east
and southern interior. Moderate to occasionally fresh SE to E winds will occur
along the east coast and will shift E to NE inland. A surface trough will enter
the far south-west late in the day.
Forecast for Thursday
The surface trough will move into the eastern interior as the ridge along the
east coast continues to weaken. Isolated showers will occur over all eastern
districts before the change mainly in the afternoon. In the wake of the trough
dry and cooler S'ly winds will spread across the west of the state. Before the
trough, winds will shift to the NE over southern districts.
Forecast for Friday
The surface trough will move off the coast during the afternoon as dry
moderate to fresh SW to SE winds spread across most of the state. Conditions
over the south of the state will become quite unstable as an upper trough
amplifies over south-eastern Australia. As a result, isolated high based showers
may occur over the south-east mainly in the afternoon. Isolated showers driven
by the SE trade flow will become confined to northern Cape York Peninsula.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
A new high will move slowly across the Great Australian Bight during the
period and will dominate the weather across the state. The high will circulate
dry and cool S to SE winds across most of the state. Some morning frosts will
occur over the south-east and southern inland. Isolated showers will most likely
again occur on the exposed east coast from overnight Sunday onwards north of
about Cardwell and south from Fraser Island.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Tuesday.
