Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 22/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning has been issued between Cape Sidmouth
and Cairns.
Strong wind warning has been issued between Sandy Cape and Point Danger.
Strong wind warning has been cancelled between Mackay and Cairns.
Strong Wind Warning has been cancelled between Gladstone and Burnett Heads
including Hervey Bay.

Weather Situation
A high [1035 hPa] over southeastern Australia will move slowly east over the
next few days. The high extends a ridge along the east coast of Queensland. A
complex low pressure system sits over the northeastern Tasman Sea.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Isolated showers about  the northeast tropical coast and southeast coast. Dry
and mostly sunny over the interior. Fresh to strong S to SE winds about the most
of the east coast. Moderate to fresh SE winds over the interior.
Forecast for Monday
The high weakens slightly over southeast Australia. Little change in the
weather over Queensland, dry over the interior, isolated showers about the
southeast coast and northeast tropical coast. Isolated early frost over the
southeast interior. Fresh to strong S to SE winds along the east coast. Mostly
moderate E to SE winds over the interior.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high will weaken over eastern New South Wales, easing winds about the
east coast. Isolated showers about the southeast coast and northeast tropical
coast. Fine and sunny over the interior. Lighter winds inland will lead to more
widespread early frost over the southern and southeast interior.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high continues to weaken over eastern New South Wales reducing wind
speeds further over Queensland. Fine and sunny over the interior with widespread
early frost over the southern and southeast interior. Isolated showers about the
exposed east coast.
Forecast for Thursday
A trough will move through southern Queensland during the day as a new ridge
builds over the west of the state from a high over the Indian Ocean. Isolated
showers along the east coast, extending to the eastern and southern interior.
Fine and mostly sunny in the west.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The trough will move offshore early Friday with W to SW winds remaining over
southern Queensland. An upper trough is forecast to move over southern
Queensland on Friday bringing cloudy conditions and possible light rain to the
southeast interior. Isolated showers contracting to the northeast tropical coast
on Friday and continuing through the weekend. Fine and cool conditions through
the rest of the state on the weekend with frosts likely to return in southern
parts from Saturday morning.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Monday.
