MELBOURNE - Jul 21/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Strong Wind Warning for coastal waters between Gladstone and Point Danger, including Hervey Bay. A strong wind warning has been issued for the southern Gulf this morning. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high [1037 hPa] near South Australia will move slowly east. The high extends a ridge along the east coast of Queensland. A complex low pressure system occurs over the southern Coral Sea. Forecast for the rest of Sunday Isolated showers about the exposed east coast, increasing towards the northeast tropical coast. Dry over the interior with a little early frost over the Granite Belt. Fresh to strong S to SE winds about the east coast, moderate to fresh SE winds over the tropics. Strong SE winds over southern Gulf waters this morning. Moderate to fresh SE winds over the interior. Forecast for Monday The southern high enters northeast Victoria and weakens a little. Little change in the weather over Queensland, dry over the interior, isolated showers about the exposed east coast. A little early frost over the southeast interior. Forecast for Tuesday As the southern high weakens winds will ease about the east coast. Once again fine and sunny over the interior. Lighter winds inland will lead to extensive early frost over the southern and southeast interior. Isolated showers persisting about the east coast. Forecast for Wednesday The high continues to weaken over eastern New South Wales reducing wind speeds further over Queensland. Fine and sunny over the interior with extensive early frost over the southern and southeast interior. Isolated showers about the east coast. Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday A new trough enters western Queensland on Thursday with a band of patchy rain and a southwesterly wind change. Isolated afternoon showers developing over the eastern interior. By Friday the trough reaches eastern Queensland with rain areas entering the Darling Downs an central districts. Isolated showers decreasing about the east coast. The rain band clearing the southeast early on Saturday, rather cold temperatures over the southern interior following the change.
