MELBOURNE - Jul 21/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Strong Wind Warning for coastal waters between Gladstone and Point Danger, including Moreton Bay and Hervey Bay. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high [1036 hPa] over South Australia will remain slow moving. The high extends a ridge along the east coast of Queensland. A strong low over the northern Tasman Sea will maintain its intensity as it slowly moves to the southeast. Forecast for the rest of Saturday Fine and mostly sunny. Isolated showers near the exposed southeast coast and over the far north. Moderate to fresh S to SE winds, tending strong about the southeast coast. Rough surf conditions on exposed southeast Queensland beaches. Forecast for Sunday The high over South Australia will move slowly to the southeast towards Victoria, while the low over the Tasman Sea should remain slow moving. This will continue to maintain dry and settled weather over most of the state, with just isolated showers along parts of the tropical coast and the southeast coast. Strong winds to continue along the southern coast. Forecast for Monday The high will remain slow moving over Victoria while gradually weakening. The low over the Tasman Sea will maintain its intensity and remain slow moving. This will maintain fine and cool conditions across most of the state, with just isolated showers along exposed parts of the east coast, tending more scattered about the North Tropical Coast. Isolated early frosts are possible about the southeast interior. Strong winds are likely to persist off the southeast coast. Forecast for Tuesday The high is likely to move generally eastwards into the far east of the country whilst weakening and this will direct SE winds on the east coast of Queensland. Isolated showers are again likely about the exposed southeast coast and far northeast of the state. The remainder of the state should remain fine and mostly sunny. Isolated early frosts over the southern and southeast interior. Forecast for Wednesday The high continues to weaken while remaining over eastern Australia. Fine and mostly sunny across much of Queensland. Isolated showers central coast and far northeast. Isolated early frosts are again possible about the southern and southeast interior. Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday The pattern will begin to gradually change during the outlook period with the ridge along the east coast weakening while an upper level trough will move east through central Australia, A new ridge will push across the west of the state on Friday from a new high developing over Western Australia. Generally, most of the state should remain fine and mostly sunny with only isolated showers about the east coast, although the upper trough may induce a weak band of cloud and at least some shower activity over the southern and southeast inland late next week. Rainfall is not likely to be heavy with this system. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Sunday.
