Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 19/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for coastal waters
between Sandy Cape and Point Danger for Friday.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high [1028 hPa] over South Australia will strengthen while remaining slow
moving over the next few days. The high extends a weakening ridge along the east
coast of Queensland. An upper trough will move through southern Queensland and
off the southeast coast later today, with a surface low developing over the
central northern Tasman Sea in response.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Isolated showers near the tropical east coast and southern tropical interior.
Fine elsewhere. Moderate S to SW winds, tending S to SE over the northern
tropics and northwest.
Forecast for Friday
Isolated showers along the tropical east coast, and exposed parts of the
southeast coast. Fine and mostly sunny conditions elsewhere over the state.
Cooler than average temperatures over most areas apart for the far north, with
early morning frosts over the southern and central interior. Moderate to fresh S
to SE winds.
Forecast for Saturday
The high over South Australia will move slowly to the southeast as the low
pressure system in the Tasman Sea remains slow moving while deepening. These
systems will combine to feed a relatively dry SW to SE wind flow across most of
the state. Cool conditions over the interior with frost areas in the south in
the morning. Isolated showers along the tropical east coast and about exposed
parts of the southeast coast. Strong S to SE winds off the southeast coast.
Forecast for Sunday
The high over South Australia will move slowly to the southeast towards
Victoria, while the low over the Tasman Sea should begin to move slowly
eastwards. This will continue to maintain dry and settled weather over most of
the state, with just isolated showers along exposed parts of the east coast.
Isolated early frost over the southern inland. Strong winds are likely to
continue along the southern coast.
Forecast for Monday
The high will remain slow moving over Victoria while gradually weakening,
while the low over the Tasman Sea will maintain its intensity and move very
little. This will maintain the fine and relatively cool conditions across most
of the state, with just a few showers along most of the east coast, although a
weak trough in the southeasterly trade flow and gradually increasing moisture
should lead to increasing showers about the North Tropical Coast. A few frosts
are again possible over the southern interior. The strong winds off the
southeast coast are likely to persist.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
The pattern will begin to gradually change during next week, with the low in
the Tasman Sea finally weakening and moving east, while the high over Victoria
will also weaken. This will allow the pressure gradient and winds to ease along
the east coast of Queensland. It should remain fine and sunny in most areas;
although gradual return of moisture into the inland trough and the approach of a
weak upper trough may support isolated afternoon showers over the central
interior from Wednesday, this activity is expected to produce minimal if any
rainfall. Isolated showers should also continue about the tropical east coast
and far north.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Friday.
