MELBOURNE - Jul 18/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood Warnings are current for the Connors and Isaac Rivers and the Don River in the Fitzroy system. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high [1029 hPa] over the eastern Tasman Sea is continuing to move slowly east. The high extends a weakening ridge along the east coast of Queensland. An upper trough will move through southern Queensland overnight and off the southeast Queensland coast on Thursday. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Isolated showers along the tropical east coast. Scattered showers and rain areas through central, eastern and southeast districts. Isolated thunderstorms possible over far southeastern border areas this evening. Fine in the west. Moderate SE winds in the tropics, tending light N to NE in the south ahead of a light to moderate S to SW change during the day. Forecast for Thursday Isolated showers and a few patches of morning drizzle over eastern districts south of about Townsville, contracting east during the day. Isolated showers along the tropical east coast and adjacent interior. Fine in the west. Moderate SW to S winds, tending S to SE over the northern tropics and northwest. Forecast for Friday A high pressure system will gradually build over central South Australia, and remain slow-moving The upper trough will move off the east coast, inducing the development of a low over the central northern Tasman Sea, well off the east coast. These systems will combine to feed a relatively dry SW to SE wind flow across most of the state. Cool conditions over the interior with frost areas in the south in the morning. Isolated showers along the tropical east coast, and exposed parts off the southeast coast. Strong S to SE winds off the southeast coast. Forecast for Saturday The high over South Australia will move slowly to the southeast as the low pressure system in the Tasman Sea remains slow moving while deepening. Dry SW to SE winds to continue across the state, with cool conditions and early frost areas over the southern and central interior. Isolated showers along the tropical east coast and about exposed parts of the southeast coast. Strong S to SE winds off the southeast coast. Forecast for Sunday The high over South Australia will move slowly to the southeast towards Bass Strait, while the low over the Tasman Sea should begin to move slowly eastwards. This will continue to maintain dry and settled weather over most of the state, with just isolated showers along exposed parts of the east coast. Isolated early frost over the southern inland. Strong winds are likely to continue along the southern coast. Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday The high will remain slow moving and maintain the ridge across the state as the low in the Tasman Sea also remains near stationary. Cool S to SE winds will persist across the state during the forecast period with early frosts about the southeast and southern inland. Fine and sunny in most areas. Isolated showers about the exposed southeast coast and in the northeast tropics. Strong S to SE winds to continue about the southeast coast until Wednesday. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Thursday.
