Weather Situation
A high [1031 hPa] over the Tasman Sea is continuing to move slowly east. The
high extends a weakening ridge along the east coast of Queensland. A weak upper
trough will move through southern Queensland during the day.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Isolated showers along the tropical east coast. Isolated showers and light
rain through central, eastern and southeast districts, with isolated showers
during the afternoon and extending into the tropical interior. Isolated
thunderstorms possible over southeastern border areas. Fine in the west.
Moderate SE winds in the tropics, tending light N to NE in the south ahead of a
light to moderate S to SW change during the day.
Forecast for Thursday
A new high will develop across central Australia while the upper trough will
move over the southeast. The surface trough will move eastwards and offshore
thus establishing drier SW to SE winds across most of the state. Showers and
morning drizzle over eastern districts, contracting east during the day.
Isolated showers to persist over the tropical east coast.
Forecast for Friday
The high will remain over central Australia while the upper trough will move
off the east coast. A low is expected to develop in the Tasman Sea, extending
dry SW to SE winds across most of the state. Cool conditions over the interior
with early frost areas in the south. Isolated showers along the tropical east
coast, and exposed parts off the southeast coast. Strong S to SE winds in the
southeast Gulf of Carpentaria and about the southeast coast.
Forecast for Saturday
The high will move slowly to the southeast as the low pressure system in the
Tasman Sea remains slow moving while deepening. Dry SW to SE winds to continue
across the state, with cool conditions and early frost areas over the southern
and central interior. Isolated showers along the tropical east coast and about
exposed parts of the southeast coast. Strong S to SE winds in the southeast Gulf
of Carpentaria and about the southeast coast.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
The high will remain slow moving and maintain the ridge across the state as
the low in the Tasman Sea also remains near stationary. Cool S to SE winds will
persist across the state during the forecast period with early frosts about the
southeast and southern inland. Fine and sunny in most areas. Isolated showers
about the exposed southeast coast and in the northeast tropics. Strong S to SE
winds to continue in the southeast Gulf of Carpentaria and about southeast
coast.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Wednesday.
