MELBOURNE - Jul 17/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system will pass well south of Tasmania today, while an associated cold front will enter southwestern Victoria this morning and move eastwards across the State during the day. A high pressure system will then develop over South Australia during Thursday, extending a ridge across northern Victoria. Another cold front will move across Bass Strait on Friday, while the high moves slowly eastward over inland Victoria over the weekend. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayScattered showers affecting most districts for a period, then contracting to the coast and east by the evening and mostly clearing. Snow showers lowering to 900 metres. Isolated hail in the south and possible thunder near the southwest and central coasts. Cool to cold with moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds extending throughout.Thursday 19 JulyWidespread morning frost. Local fog about the ranges and over the northeast, otherwise fine during the morning apart from a clearing shower about the Gippsland coast. Isolated showers developing over the southwest during the afternoon and evening. Cool to cold with light to moderate westerly winds.Friday 20 JulyIsolated showers mainly on and south of the ranges falling as snow above 1600 metres. Generally cool with light to moderate west to northwesterly winds.Saturday 21 JulyFine apart from isolated showers in the far east.
