and Burnett Heads.

Weather Situation
A high [1028 hPa] over South Australia will continue to move eastwards and
will enter the Tasman Sea overnight Monday and the New Zealand area by late
Tuesday. The high will maintain a firm ridge along the east coast of Queensland
til Tuesday when it will begin to weaken. A new upper trough will move across
southern Queensland during Wednesday and Thursday.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Cloudy with patchy light rain and showers over the northern and eastern
tropics. Fine elsewhere. Cool across the state with moderate to fresh and gusty
SW to SE winds, strong at times along the east coast north of about St Lawrence
and over south-east Gulf of Carpentaria waters.
Forecast for Monday
The upper trough will move seawards early with the cloud and patchy rain band
over the north-east tropics contracting offshore during the morning. In the wake
of the cloud and rain band isolated showers will persist along the east coast
north of the Cardwell to Cairns area. Fine and cool conditions will occur
elsewhere with widespread frost over the south-east, southern and central
interior. The high pressure system will move into northeast New South Wales
during the day and will extend a firm ridge along the east coast. Strong winds
will occur north of Fraser Island along the east coast and will again occur
about south-east Gulf of Carpentaria waters in the morning. Isolated showers
will develop about the Fraser Island area in the evening.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high will move across the Tasman Sea and will maintain a ridge and SE
winds along the east coast of Queensland. Isolated showers will occur along the
east coast in the moist SE winds and will spread into the adjacent inland in the
afternoon. Some morning drizzle will occur over the eastern tropical interior
and the central interior. With the high moving quickly eastwards across the
Tasman Sea the strong SE winds will contract to north of Bowen by the afternoon.
A cool to cold morning will occur over much of the interior with frost areas
about the south-east and southern interior.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high will move to the east of New Zealand resulting the ridge weakening
along the east coast. So winds will shift more E'ly with the strong winds along
the north-east tropical coast easing very early. Showers will continue along the
east coast in the onshore stream and will develop over the inland mainly in the
afternoon in the increasingly moist conditions. Some morning drizzle areas may
occur about the eastern interior in these moist conditions. These showers will
become scattered over southeast districts as a weak upper trough affects the
area. A frontal system will move across the west of the state during the morning
and will help trigger isolated storms in the afternoon over the southern
interior as some upper instability comes into consideration. A new high will
move into central Australia.
Forecast for Thursday
The new high will move a little further eastwards across central Australia
while the upper trough will move into the south-east. The surface trough will
move eastwards and mix out during the morning thus allowing drier SW to SE winds
to become established across most of the state. Showers and drizzle will occur
before the trough and then contract into the south-east corner in the afternoon
where instability will be greatest due to the upper trough. Isolated SE trade
showers will persist over northern Cape York Peninsula and through Torres
Strait. Strong S to SE winds will occur across south-east Gulf of Carpentaria
waters.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The high will move slowly to the south as a deep low develops over the Tasman
Sea. So cool S to SE winds will persist across the state during the forecast
period. As a result conditions will be fine and sunny in most areas. Isolated
showers will redevelop about the exposed east coast areas during Sunday as the
onshore flow becomes moister. Some frost may occur about the south-east and
southern inland on Friday and saturday mornings. Strong S to SE winds will
continue over south-east Gulf of Carpentaria waters during the period.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Monday.
