MELBOURNE - Jul 12/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A complex low pressure system over South Australia extends a trough southeastwards to another low pressure centre just southeast of Tasmania. The system will move slowly eastwards to be just southwest of Victoria this evening and then east of Tasmania later Saturday as an associated upper level trough moves across the State. A cold front will move across Bass Strait on Sunday while a ridge moves over New South Wales. The ridge will remain over New South Wales on Monday. Forecast for the rest of FridayRain areas and possible early thunderstorms over the northeast, easing to showers during the afternoon. Scattered showers elsewhere, becoming more widespread over the southwest coast during the afternoon and clearing from the northwest. Snowfalls developing about the the Alpine peaks. Areas of morning fog and low cloud. A cool and mostly cloudy day with light to moderate west to northwesterly winds.Saturday 14 JulyScattered showers, more widespread about the southwest and Gippsland coast. Isolated thunderstorms and local hail, mainly near and south of the Divide. Snow down to 900m. A cool to cold and and mostly cloudy day with moderate to fresh westerly winds.Sunday 15 JulyScattered showers about the northeast ranges and southwest and Gippsland coasts. Isolated showers elsewhere though remaining dry over the northwest. Snow above 900m, contracting above 1500m by the evening. A cool and mostly cloudy day with moderate to fresh westerly winds.Monday 16 JulyIsolated showers over the southwest and the northeast ranges otherwise fine.
