MELBOURNE - Jul 11/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high pressure system [1035 hPa] over New Zealand extends a weakening ridge into eastern Queensland. A trough off the tropical east coast is expected to weaken and move onshore on Thursday. A new major upper trough will develop into central Australia during today. Forecast for the rest of Thursday Generally cloudy with scattered showers and rain areas east of about Townsville to St George, with some moderate falls possible about the southern tropical cost and far southern Darling Downs. Isolated showers over remaining eastern districts, and isolated showers and thunderstorms developing over the southwest during the day. Moderate SE winds over the northern tropics, tending mostly moderate E to NE elsewhere. Forecast for Friday Mostly cloudy, with showers, rain areas and isolated thunderstorms over much of the state, although remaining fine over the far northwest. Some moderate to locally heavy falls possible over the southeast and southern inland. Mostly moderate E to NE winds, ahead of a moderate SW to S change over the far southwest. Forecast for Saturday The upper level trough will continue to move slowly northeastwards during the day with fine conditions eventually spreading to the far southwest of the state as a much drier and cooler air mass spreads into the area. Cloud and rain areas and a few thunderstorms will persist over most of the state, although it should remain fine over the far northwest. Forecast for Sunday The upper level trough will begin to weaken, although it will continue to maintain cloud and rain areas over most central and eastern parts of the state. Drier weather should spread across the southern parts of the state as dryer air moves in from the southwest. Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday The upper trough should continue to weaken, with the rain band over central parts of the state tending to dissipate. A new ridge will develop along the east coast as a high moves east across New South Wales, and the strengthening SE trade winds are likely to produce isolated to scattered showers along the east coast, spreading further inland to the eastern interior during the days. Fine conditions should persist in the south, with early frost areas likely to return to the southeast interior. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Thursday.
