MELBOURNE - Jul 10/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A strong high pressure system near New Zealand is moving slowly east, while a trough of low pressure which brought widespread rain to New South Wales is now decaying over the state's northeast. As a weak ridge develops across the region today, southern and western districts will see a return to generally fine conditions. The clearing will be short-lived, however, as a second trough and associated cold front is set to bring another rain band across the region during Thursday and Friday. Following this, the next high is forecast to extend a ridge across from the west on the weekend, restoring fine weather to most parts of New South Wales. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayFine and partly cloudy in the western half, after widespread morning fog. Rain areas across the northeast inland, easing to isolated showers by the afternoon. The chance of showers about the southern ranges and western slopes, mainly in the morning. Snow showers about the Alps above 1500 metres, and possible morning thunder. Northeast to northwesterly winds, fresh to strong and gusty about exposed parts of the tablelands.Thursday 12 JulyRain areas developing throughout, more widespread across the northern inland and on the western slopes of the southern ranges. Snow about the higher Alpine peaks. North to northwesterly winds.Friday 13 JulyClearing over the western inland. Rain areas elsewhere, contracting northeast and easing. Snow about the higher Alpine peaks. North to northwesterly winds turning west to southwesterly.Saturday 14 JulyIsolated showers in the southeastern inland and in the far northeast, easing. Snow showers about the higher Alpine peaks. Fine elsewhere.
