Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 9/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A large high pressure system over the Tasman Sea is drifting towards New Zealand. A low pressure system is expected to develop over far western Victoria overnight, then move southwards during Tuesday before weakening. Another low pressure system and associated trough is expected to slowly approach Victoria from the west during Wednesday and Thursday, then move eastwards across Victoria on Friday.
Forecast for the rest of MondayIsolated showers over the north and west, increasing in the far west and tending to rain in the northwest this evening. Locally heavy rainfall possible in the Mallee later tonight. Mostly cloudy day with light to moderate northeasterly winds.Tuesday 10 JulyRain areas, more widespread and locally heavy in the north and falling as snow about the Alpine peaks. Rain tending to scattered showers from the west during the afternoon and evening. Isolated thunderstorms in the north, contracting eastwards later. Only isolated showers extending to East Gippsland. A generally cool and cloudy day with moderate to fresh northeast to northerly winds, becoming strong and gusty about the eastern ranges.Wednesday 11 JulyScattered showers over the northeast and at first about the southwest coast, but only isolated showers possible elsewhere. Snowfalls above 1500 metres. Cool with moderate to fresh north to northwesterly winds.Thursday 12 JulyScattered showers over most districts, widespread about the northeast and falling as snow above 1700 metres. Isolated thunderstorms developing in the north. Cool to cold and mostly cloudy with moderate to fresh northerly winds.Friday 13 JulyScattered showers over the northeast and developing about the southwest. Isolated showers elsewhere. Snowfalls about the Alpine peaks, lowering to around 1000 metres during the day. A cool to cold and mostly cloudy day with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds, tending southwesterly in the west.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EST Tuesday.Product IDV10310
