For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A strong high pressure system over central Australia will strengthen during
the next few days and remain slow moving. This high will extend a firm ridge
across most of Queensland until late in the week.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Isolated showers over northern Cape York Peninsula. Fine elsewhere. Cool to
cold morning in most parts with widespread early frosts over central and
southern Queensland. Moderate to fresh SW to SE winds.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high will reorganise over South Australia and the Great Australian Bight,
and maintain a firm ridge across most of Queensland. Dry SW to SE winds will
continue to affect most of the state, with the dry air extending into the
northern tropics. Cool to cold mornings will occur in most parts with widespread
frosts over central and southern Queensland and possibly occurring on the
Atherton Tableland to the west of Cairns. Isolated SE trade showers will occur
about the east coast north of Cooktown. Winds will remain strong about the
southeast Gulf of Carpentaria and along the east coast north of Innisfail.
Forecast for Wednesday
The large high pressure system will continue to strengthen and remain
slow-moving near Adelaide, with a firm ridge persisting into Queensland. Dry air
will remain in place over much of the state, leading to fine, cool but mostly
sunny day. A light shower or two should continue about far northern Cape York
Peninsula, and gradually moistening southerly flow about the far southeast may
lead to a light shower or two about Fraser Island. Strong winds are likely to
continue about the coastal waters north of Cardwell and in the southeast Gulf of
Carpentaria.
Forecast for Thursday
The large high near Adelaide will move only very slowly east, with a firm
ridge remaining in place over most of Queensland. Fine conditions will remain
over most of the state under the influence of the dry, cool and stable airmass.
However, the S to SE flow onto the east coast will gradually gain in moisture
and produce a few showers along exposed parts of the east coast and islands with
the assistance of an upper level trough.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The high will move slowly east during the forecast period while gradually
weakening. It will direct mostly dry S to SE winds across the state, with fine
conditions continuing in most areas. However, the flow will tend gradually more
onshore along the east coast during the period, with isolated to scattered
showers will gradually return to exposed parts of the east coast and islands.
Frosts will continue to be widespread over much of the interior and inland
coastal districts. Temperatures generally will remain below average across most
of the state.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Monday.
