MELBOURNE - Jun 29/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front over western Victoria will slide southeastwards as it crosses the remainder of the State tonight. A low pressure system forming southwest of Victoria will drift slowly eastwards across Tasmania during the weekend then out over the Tasman Sea on Monday. A weak cold front will cross southern Victoria early on Tuesday and a large high pressure system will move over the Bight. Forecast for the rest of FridayScattered showers mostly contracting to the southwest and the ranges this evening. The chance of thunderstorms and hail, mainly about the west and central coast. Snowfalls lowering to 1200 metres. Moderate to fresh northwesterly winds, locally strong about the ranges and the southwest coast.Saturday 30 JuneShowers with local hail, mainly over southern and mountain areas, becoming widespread about the southwest coast. Snowfalls down to 1000 metres. Local thunderstorms in the southwest and central regions, mainly in the afternoon. A cool to cold day with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds shifting west to southwesterly later in the west.Sunday 1 JulyScattered showers in southern and mountain areas, more widespread near the west and central coast and extending into West and South Gippsland. Isolated showers on the northern plains. Local hail and thunder in central and southeastern areas. Snow above 900 metres. A cold day with moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds.Monday 2 JulyShowers in southern and mountain areas becoming more isolated in the west. Isolated showers reaching some northern areas but fine over the far northwest. Snow above 1100 metres. A cool to cold day with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.Tuesday 3 JulyIsolated showers in southern and mountain areas, scattered near the coast. Mainly dry on the northern plains with just the chance of light afternoon showers.
