MELBOURNE - Jun 28/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front to the west will slip southwards tonight. A low pressure system is expected to be located southwest of Tasmania by late Friday, crossing Bass Strait on Saturday before reaching the Tasman Sea on Sunday. An associated trough will move eastwards across Victoria during Saturday and Sunday. On Monday a high pressure system will develop over the Bight. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayIsolated showers, mainly over the southwest and northeast. Mostly cloudy with generally moderate to fresh northerly winds, strong and gusty about the ranges.Friday 29 JuneScattered showers extending across the State apart from the far southeast. Showers tending more isolated over the northwest. Isolated thunderstorms and hail possible in the southwest. Snowfalls lowering to 1200 metres by late in the day. A cool to mild and mostly cloudy day with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds, locally strong about the ranges.Saturday 30 JuneShowers, mainly over southern and mountain areas, although fine over the far southeast. Showers becoming more widespread near the western and central coasts and also over the eastern ranges. Local hail and thunder near and south of the ranges. Snow above 1000 metres. A cool to cold day with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds shifting west to southwesterly from the west.Sunday 1 JulyScattered showers in southern and mountain areas, more widespread in the southeast. Isolated showers to the north but fine over the northwest. Local hail and thunder in the east. Snow above 1000 metres. A cold day with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.Monday 2 JulyWidespread showers in the southeast. Fine over the northwest. Isolated showers elsewhere. Snow above 1000 metres.
