MELBOURNE - Jun 27/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

St Lawrence and Point Danger, including Hervey Bay. The Strong Wind Warning for
Moreton Bay has been cancelled.

web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high [1033 hPa] over Victoria will move into the Tasman Sea during today
and then across the Tasman Sea over the next few days. An upper level trough is
moving across southern Queensland, generating thick cloud and rain areas over
central and southern Queensland with very cold day time temperatures. A surface
trough located off central and southern east coast of Queensland is expected to
deepen during the next couple of days with a low pressure system likely to form
off the Capricornia coast today.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Cloudy with areas of rain and moderate falls over central and southeast
districts, easing over central districts during the day. Showers and extensive
drizzle areas persisting over the southern and central interior as well as over
the southeast tropics. Isolated showers over the northeast tropics, tending
scattered about the North Tropical Coast in the morning. Fine in the far west.
Remaining cold during the day in central and southeast districts due to the
thick cloud cover. Moderate to fresh S to SE winds, fresh to strong and gusty at
times along the Capricornia and southern Queensland coast.
Forecast for Thursday
The upper trough over southeast Queensland moves off the coast during the
day. The high moves further east across the Tasman Sea and continues to weaken,
but will still extend a ridge along the east Queensland coast. The surface
trough off the Capricornia and southern Queensland coasts begins to move east,
while the low on the trough moves southeast to be located east of Fraser Island
by night. As a result, strong and gusty S to SE winds persist along the
Capricornia and southern Queensland coast. The thick cloud and rain areas
contract to the far southeast of the state where it will remain cool to cold
during the day. Moderate falls are possible about coastal parts of the Southeast
Coast district. Isolated showers and drizzle areas are expected to persist over
the remainder of eastern Queensland and the northern tropics. Fine in the west.
Forecast for Friday
The high moves to near New Zealand and is expected to extend a weaker ridge
along the north tropical coast with isolated showers over the northeast tropics.
A new surface trough and very weak upper trough is expected to move rapidly east
across Queensland during the day, with drier S to SW winds developing over most
of the interior. A warmer day in the west and south ahead of the trough.
Isolated showers over southeast districts ahead of the trough, tending scattered
along the far southern coast during the early morning. The trough and low well
off the southeast Queensland coast are expected to continue moving away from the
region with coastal winds decreasing.
Forecast for Saturday
A new ridge is expected to extend across the state from a high over the
Indian Ocean with drier SW to SE winds over western Queensland and mostly fine
conditions across the state. Conditions will remain mostly cloudy however over
eastern Queensland. A weak ridge along the north tropical coast is likely to
result in isolated showers over the northeast tropics. Minimum temperatures are
expected to decrease to below average in the tropics and most of the interior,
with day time temperatures returning to about average in most areas. Early
frosts are a possibility about parts of the southeast interior but are highly
dependent on the extent of cloud cover.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
The ridge will continue to extend across the state with drier and colder
gusty SW to SE winds spreading to most areas. A weak ridge will persist along
the north tropical coast and result in isolated showers over the northeast
tropics. A surface trough passing over southern Queensland during Sunday may
result in isolated afternoon and evening showers over the southern interior and
parts of eastern Queensland before fine and mostly sunny conditions return on
Monday and Tuesday. Colder temperatures are expected to affect most of the state
during Monday and Tuesday with widespread morning frosts returning to the
central, southern and southeast interior. Some cloud may affect the southern
inland border ranges on Monday and Tuesday but remaining fine at this stage.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Wednesday.
