Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jun 27/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A strong high pressure system straddles southern Victoria and will be located just east of Victoria by this afternoon. A cold front will approach from the west during Thursday before slipping southwards. A low pressure system is expected to be located southwest of Tasmania by late Friday, an associated trough looks likely to move into western Victoria on Saturday.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayWidespread areas of morning frost. Isolated morning fog patches over the north and east. A fine and mostly sunny day. Cool with light winds tending northerly.Thursday 28 JuneLocal early frost in the east and early fog patches in Gippsland. Isolated afternoon showers about the eastern ranges falling as snow above 1600 metres. Isolated showers developing in the southwest and becoming more widespread with the chance of a local thunderstorm near the southwestern coast later in the day. A cool to mild day with moderate northerly winds becoming fresh and gusty over elevated areas in the afternoon.Friday 29 JuneScattered showers extending across the state apart from the far southeast. Showers tending more isolated over the northwest. Isolated thunderstorms possible in central and western districts. Snowfalls lowering to 1200 metres by late in the day. A cool to mild day with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds, locally strong about the ranges.Saturday 30 JuneScattered showers and isolated thunderstorms in southern and mountain districts with isolated showers extending to the northeastern inland in the afternoon. Showers falling as snow above 900 metres. A cool to cold day with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds shifting west to southwesterly over the west during the day.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Wednesday.Product IDV10310
