MELBOURNE - Jun 25/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters between Torres Strait to Cardwell. A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters between St Lawrence and Burnett Heads. A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for coastal waters between Sandy Cape and Double Island Point, including Hervey Bay, for Tuesday. A Strong Wind Warning is current for southeast Gulf of Carpentaria waters for today. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high [1035 hPa] over South Australia extends a ridge across New South Wales. The high will move slowly into Victoria on Tuesday while an upper level trough will move across southern Queensland. A surface trough over the western Coral Sea is expected to deepen during the next couple of days. Forecast for the rest of Monday Cloudy and cold over many eastern districts with showers, light rain and drizzle areas. Isolated showers over the northeast tropics. Dry in the west and through southern districts. Strong winds about parts of the east coast and in the southern Gulf this morning. Moderate to fresh SE winds about the remainder of the east coast and over the tropics. Moderate to fresh SE winds over the interior. Forecast for Tuesday The high moves into Victoria while the upper level trough progresses through southern Queensland. Rain areas develop further over eastern districts and extend south a little. Showers or drizzle further north over the eastern central districts and isolated showers generally over the northeast tropics. Dry through the west and south. Chilly again in the south during the morning with extensive early frost. Cold day temperatures again through eastern districts associated with the rain area. Strong winds persisting about the Capricorn coast. Forecast for Wednesday The high pressure system moves towards the southeast coast of New South Wales while the upper level trough enters southeast Queensland. Rain areas contracting to the southeast region with possible moderate falls near the coast. Extensive showers or drizzle further north over the eastern interior. Isolated showers generally over the northeast tropics. Fine and sunny weather to the west and south. Early frost contracting to the southern Maranoa and Warrego districts. Strong SE winds persisting about the Capricorn and Wide Bay coasts. Forecast for Thursday The high eventually moves out over the southern Tasman Sea while the upper level trough weakens on the southeast coast. Rain areas contracting to the Gold Coast, isolated showers remaining over the greater southeast region. Isolated showers decreasing about the east coast generally. Fine and sunny over the interior. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday A new trough moves through Queensland on Friday and reaches the southeast coast late in the day. Possible isolated showers remaining over the southeast ahead of the change. Dry and cooler weather developing over the remainder of the state with S to SW winds. Eventually dry over most districts with isolated showers remaining in the northeast tropics. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Monday.
