Weather Situation
A large high [1037hPa] over South Australia extends a ridge across New South
Wales. The high will move slowly southeastwards to become centred over the
eastern Great Australian Bight by late Monday. An upper level trough lies over
the Queensland interior and is generating cloud and patchy rain over parts of
eastern Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Remaining cloudy and cold over eastern districts between about Bowen and
Brisbane with patchy light rain and drizzle. Isolated showers about the tropical
east coast. Fine over the interior and far southeast of the state. Strong SE
winds about southern Gulf of Carpentaria waters during the morning and late
evening. Strong SE winds about the east coast between Lockhart River and Burnett
Heads. Moderate SW to SE winds elsewhere, fresh about the coast and over western
areas.
Forecast for Monday
Cloudy and cold over many eastern districts with light rain and drizzle
areas. The cloud and light rain areas are expected to extend through the eastern
Central West, Central Highlands, Coalfields, Central Coast, Capricornia, Wide
and Burnett districts and into northern parts of the Southeast Coast district.
Isolated showers over the northeast tropics which will increase about the North
Tropical Coast late in the day. Fine and sunny over the remainder of the state.
A cool morning over the southern interior with extensive early frost. Strong
winds will persist along the east coast between Lockhart River and Burnett Heads
and over the southeast Gulf of Carpentaria during the morning.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high pressure system should move into Victoria whilst the upper level
trough moves eastwards across southern Queensland. The cloud and rain areas will
extend further west into the Central West district and also into the northern
Maranoa and Warrego district. Temperatures will remain well below average
beneath the cloud band. Showers and drizzle areas will continue over eastern
central districts and isolated showers will persist over the northeast tropics.
Remaining fine and sunny over the far southern interior and far southeast of the
state. Remaining fine and sunny in the west. Early frost areas are expected to
become confined to far southern districts.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high pressure system should move eastwards across the Tasman Sea and
weaken with winds gradually easing along the east coast. The upper trough will
continue to move eastwards across the south of the state and become situated
over the far southeast of the state late in the day. Cloudy and cool conditions
with rain areas are likely to continue through the Central Highlands and
Coalfields, Central Coast, Capricornia and Wide and Burnett districts with the
rainfall increasing in intensity due to the upper trough. Isolated showers and
drizzle elsewhere along the east coast and adjacent inland. Fine and partly
cloudy over the west of the state. A cool morning over the far southern
interior with possible frosts.
Forecast for Thursday
The high should continue to moe eastwards across the Tasman Sea whilst a deep
low crosses the Southern Ocean. The upper trough is likely to clear off the
southeast coast during the day and develop a weak low pressure system off the
southeast coast. Rain areas should become confined to the far southeast of the
state. Cloudy conditions will persist southeast of Mackay to Cunnamulla with
drizzle and isolated showers. Isolated showers elsewhere about the east coast.
Fine and partly cloudy over the remainder of the state.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
A new high develops over southwest Australia during the outlook period with a
ridge eventually extending from the high across most of the state during the
weekend. This should bring fine and partly cloudy conditions to most of the
state with cool south to southwest winds developing. Some showers are possible
about the southeast of the state on Friday. Showers are likely to persist about
the far northeast of the state throughout the outlook period.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Monday.
