Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jun 23/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for east coast waters
between Torres Strait and Burnett Heads for tomorrow.
A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for southeast Gulf of Carpentaria waters
from late Saturday evening.

Weather Situation
A high [1034 hPa] over southern Western Australia will move eastwards into
South Australia on Sunday whilst intensifying. The high will extend a
strengthening ridge into southern and western Queensland. An upper level trough
lies over the Queensland interior.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Cloudy with patchy light rain about the Capricornia, Wide Bay and Burnett and
Southeast Coast districts. Isolated showers about the North Tropical Coast. Fine
and mostly clear elsewhere. Strong SE winds will develop over southern Gulf of
Carpentaria waters late this evening. Moderate SW to SE winds elsewhere, fresh
near the coast and over western areas.
Forecast for Sunday
Cloudy and cool with patchy light rain and drizzle about the Capricornia,
Wide Bay and Burnett and far northern Southeast Coast districts and eastern
parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields. Isolated showers elsewhere about
the east coast north of Bowen. Fine and sunny over the remainder of the state.
A cool to cold morning over most of the interior with extensive early frosts
over the southern interior. Strong SE winds about southeast Gulf of Carpentaria
waters during the morning and late evening. Strong SE winds are expected to
develop offshore about the east coast north of Burnett Heads. Moderate SW to SE
winds elsewhere, fresh about the coast and over western areas.
Forecast for Monday
The high will remain slow moving over South Australia and maintain a ridge
through New South Wales and southern Queensland. Cloudy and cool with patchy
light rain through the Central Highlands and Coalfields, Central Coast,
Capricornia and Wide and Burnett districts. Isolated showers about the east
coast and adjacent inland north of Bowen. Strong winds will persist along the
east coast north of Burnett Heads and over the southeast Gulf of Carpentaria
during the morning and late evening. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of
the state.  Cool to cold in the southern interior with extensive early
frost.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high pressure system should move eastwards through Victoria, maintaining
strong winds along the east coast north of Burnett Heads and over the southeast
Gulf during the morning.  Cloudy with patchy light rain through the Central
Highlands and Coalfields, Central Coast, Capricornia and Wide and Burnett
districts.  Isolated showers elsewhere along the east coast. Fine and mostly
sunny over the remainder of the state. Cool to cold in the southern interior
with extensive early frost.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high pressure system should move eastwards across the Tasman Sea and
weaken with winds gradually easing along the east coast. Cloud and patchy light
rain is likely to continue through the Central Highlands and Coalfields, Central
Coast, Capricornia and Wide and Burnett districts. Isolated showers elsewhere
along the east coast and adjacent inland. Fine and mostly sunny over the
remainder of the state. Cool to cold in the southern interior with extensive
early frosts.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
The high should continue to move east across the Tasman Sea whilst a new high
develops over southwestern Australia that enters the Great Australian Bight on
Friday. The next upper trough is likely to move into the southwest of the state
on Friday and into the southern interior on Saturday. Showers are likely to
continue about the east coast in the onshore flow. The upper trough is likely to
cause showers to develop over the central and southern interior on Friday and
Saturday.
