MELBOURNE - Jun 22/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system over the Tasman Sea is moving rapidly southeastwards. A series of cold fronts crossing the Southern Ocean will move through Bass Strait over the weekend and early next week, just clipping southern Victoria. Meanwhile, a high pressure system will develop over the Bight during the weekend and will extend a ridge across northern Victoria. The high will edge towards Victoria on Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of FridayRain areas over East Gippsland clearing eastwards this evening. Scattered showers elsewhere contracting towards the coast this evening and falling as snow above 800 metres. Possible hail in the south tonight. Moderate to locally fresh southerly winds easing inland overnight.Saturday 23 JuneWidespread morning frosts inland, locally severe. Isolated showers over southern and mountain districts, scattered near the coast. Isolated showers penetrating just north of the divide. Showers falling as snow above 1000 metres. A cool to cold day with moderate west to northwest winds, fresh along the coastal fringe.Sunday 24 JuneMorning fog and frosts inland. Scattered showers near the coast. Isolated showers over most remaining areas, but dry over the far northwest. Showers falling as snow above 1400 metres. A cool to cold day with moderate westerly winds, fresh along the coastal fringe.Monday 25 JuneMorning fog and frosts inland. Scattered showers near the coast. Isolated showers developing elsewhere. Showers falling as snow above 1400 metres. A cool to cold day with moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds.Tuesday 26 JuneLocal morning frost over the north. Scattered showers over southern and mountain districts but dry over remaining areas.
