Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jun 21/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high [1023 hPa] over the southwest Coral Sea extends a ridge over eastern
Queensland. The high is forecast to move east and weaken over the next couple of
days. A trough is located near the southwest border, and will move through the
interior of the state on Friday.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Partly cloudy with isolated showers along the central and tropical coasts,
and about eastern Cape York Peninsula. Fine elsewhere. Moderate to fresh SE
winds over the tropics. Light to moderate mostly NE to NW winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Friday
Partly cloudy with isolated showers and possible early drizzle along most of
the east coast. Isolated afternoon showers  about the eastern and southern
interior. High cloud in the southwest with little or no rain. Early frost
possible about the Granite Belt. Mostly moderate SE to NE winds in the east,
tending NW in the southeast. Cooler SW winds spreading from the west over the
interior.
Forecast for Saturday
The trough is expected to clear the southeast coast during the early morning,
lying between the southeast Gulf and the Capricornia later in the day as a
strong high pressure system starts to build in the Great Australian Bight.
Isolated showers to persist about the tropical and central coasts, and extending
to the Fraser Island area during the morning. Winds to freshen north of about
Cairns while strong winds develop over southern Gulf of Carpentaria waters. A
cool morning in the south with morning frosts over the southeast and southern
interior.
Forecast for Sunday
The high pressure system will move over South Australia during the day,
strengthening the ridge along the east coast. Strong winds are expected along
the east coast north of about Bowen, and also in the southeast Gulf and far
northeast Gulf. Isolated showers along the coast and adjacent inland north of
about Townsville. A cool to cold morning in the south with morning frosts over
the southeast and southern interior.
Forecast for Monday
The high pressure system will remain slow moving near South Australia while
strengthening slightly. Strong winds are expected along the east coast north of
about Bowen, and also in the southeast Gulf and far northeast Gulf. Isolated
showers along the coast and adjacent inland north of about Townsville. A cool to
cold morning in the south with morning frosts over the southeast and southern
interior.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
The high pressure system remains slow moving about southeastern Australia at
a similar strength. Expect dry SW to SE winds across most of the state once
again, tending fresh to strong SE with isolated showers in the tropics. Isolated
showers returning to southern coastal areas as the flow becomes slightly more
onshore. Temperatures below average in most areas, especially at night, with
morning frosts continuing about the central, southern and southeast interior of
the state.
