MELBOURNE - Jun 21/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system just south of Adelaide will move southeastwards across southwestern Victoria tonight and be located well east of Tasmania by Friday evening. An associated cold front will cross the State during Friday. A second cold front will approach western Victoria late Friday and move across Bass Strait on Saturday, followed by another cold front extending across southern Victoria Sunday night or early Monday. Meanwhile a high pressure system centred over the Bight will ridge across western and northern Victoria during Sunday and Monday. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayRain areas, moderate to heavy falls about the ranges Isolated thunderstorms possible near the southwest coast. Snowfalls lowering to 1200 metres with extensive falls likely at Alpine resorts. Cool to cold and cloudy with fresh to locally strong north to northwest wind moderating and tending northwest to westerly.Friday 22 JuneRain areas contracting eastwards during the day, clearing from the west later in the morning, through central areas in the afternoon and in the east at night. Moderate to heavy falls on the ranges and about west Gippsland. Isolated showers persisting on and south of the ranges after the rain, with local hail possible. Snowfalls down to 800 metres, easing in the evening. A cold day with moderate west to northwest winds, turning southwesterly by the afternoon and strengthening near the coast.Saturday 23 JuneScattered showers on and south of the ranges, falling as snow above 1000 metres. Isolated showers over the northern inland, mainly afternoon and isolated thunderstorms possible in the far southwest. A cool to cold day with moderate west to northwest winds, shifting west to southwesterly near the coast and strengthening during the day.Sunday 24 JuneScattered showers on and south of the ranges and isolated showers extending to the northern inland areas during the afternoon. Further snowfalls above 1100 metres. Winds tending moderate to fresh west to southwesterly during the day and strengthening about the coast and ranges.Monday 25 JuneScattered showers on and south of the ranges and isolated showers extending to northern inland areas during the afternoon but fine in the far northwest. Snowfalls above 1100 metres.
