MELBOURNE - Jun 20/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front will weaken as it crosses central Bass Strait today. Another cold front will reach western Bass Strait late today, then cross Victoria on Friday. The next front is expected to approach western Victoria late Friday then weaken on Saturday as it gradually moves east. On Sunday a stronger cold front will cross the State. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayRain areas extending eastwards across the State during the morning. Isolated thunderstorms possible near the southwest coast. Snowfalls lowering to 1200 metres with extensive falls likely at Alpine resorts. Cool to cold and cloudy with fresh to locally strong north to northwest wind moderating and tending northwest to westerly.Friday 22 JuneRain areas contracting to the northeast ranges in the afternoon then clearing. Isolated showers to follow, mostly contracting to the south in the afternoon. Showers more widespread near the southwestern and central coasts in the afternoon with small hail possible. Rain and showers falling as snow down to 800 metres, easing in the evening. A generally cold and partly cloudy day with moderate west to northwest winds, turning southwesterly by the afternoon and strengthening near the coast.Saturday 23 JuneIsolated showers possible over most districts, tending more widespread in the west during the morning. Isolated thunderstorms possible in the far southwest. Showers possibly falling as snow above 900 metres over the eastern ranges. A cool to cold day with light to moderate north to northwest winds, fresh near the coast and about the ranges. Winds tending moderate westerly in the west in the afternoon.Sunday 24 JuneScattered showers tending more isolated over the Mallee with small hail possible near the southwestern and central coasts. Showers falling as snow down to 700 metres.
