Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jun 19/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A narrow ridge of high pressure will move eastwards across Victoria tonight, moving to the Tasman Sea Wednesday morning. The next cold front is expected to reach western Bass Strait Wednesday night then weaken as it crosses the remainder of Bass Strait on Thursday. Another cold front is expected to approach western Victoria late Friday then weaken on Saturday as it gradually moves east.
Forecast for the rest of TuesdayIsolated light showers clearing from the East Gippsland coast this evening. Otherwise mostly clear with light to moderate southwesterly winds, tending light northerly across western districts.Wednesday 20 JuneA cold start in the east with local frosts or fog. A band of rain extending across the southwest during the late afternoon and evening. Isolated showers possible on the northern slopes of the dividing range. Otherwise a cool to mild day with cloud increasing from the west. Moderate to fresh north to northwest wind, strengthening over southern and elevated areas during the day.Thursday 21 JuneA band of rain extending eastwards across the State during the morning then easing to showers from the southwest during the afternoon and evening. Isolated thunderstorms possible near the southwest coast. Snowfalls lowering to 1100 metres with extensive falls likely at Alpine resorts. Cool to cold and cloudy with fresh to locally strong north to northwest wind moderating and tending northwest to westerly.Friday 22 JuneRain areas clearing from the east. Scattered showers near the southwestern and central coasts. Showers tending more isolated elsewhere in the south with just the chance of isolated showers north of the divide. Showers falling as snow above 800 metres. A generally cold and partly cloudy day with moderate westerly winds, fresh to strong about elevated and coastal areas.Saturday 23 JuneIsolated showers near and south of the ranges tending more widespread near the central and western coasts. Isolated showers possible about the northern inland but remaining fine over the Mallee. Showers falling as snow above 900 metres over the eastern ranges. A cool to cold day with light to moderate north to northwest winds, fresh near the coast and about the ranges.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EST Wednesday.Product IDV10310
