MELBOURNE - Jun 19/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system over the north of South Australia is moving eastwards and will reach the east coast on Wednesday. A cold front and associated cloud band will move across western parts of the State on Wednesday, reaching central parts late in evening, then eastern districts on Thursday. A series of fronts will then cross southern parts of the State over the weekend. A new ridge of high pressure will develop over the Bight early next week. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayFine apart from possible isolated showers over the southern Mount Lofty Ranges this afternoon. Cool with light to moderate northerly winds.Wednesday 20 JuneFine at first. Areas of rain developing near southern and western coasts in the late afternoon and evening, extending to areas southwest of about Kimba to Bordertown by midnight. Fresh and gusty north to northwesterly winds, strong at times about southern coasts and ranges. A cool to mild day, grading to warm in the far west.Thursday 21 JuneAreas of rain over the agricultural area and West Coast district, turning to scattered showers from the west during the day. Isolated showers over the remainder south of about Coober Pedy to Broken Hill. Isolated thunderstorms and possible small hail southwest of about Ceduna to Keith. Generally cool with moderate to fresh north to northwesterly winds ahead of a west to southwesterly change extending from the west.Friday 22 JuneIsolated showers contracting to the agricultural area and West Coast district by evening, but increasing to scattered about southern coasts and ranges and the Lower South East during the evening. Isolated thunderstorms and possible small hail about western and southern coasts. Cool with moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds.Saturday 23 JuneScattered showers over the agricultural area, isolated showers over southern parts of the pastoral districts, easing to isolated showers over the agricultural areas during the day. Possible isolated thunderstorms and small hail south of Clare. Generally cool to cold with moderate to fresh northwest to southwesterly winds. Cumulative rainfall totals from Tuesday afternoon until midnight Saturday are expected to be 15 to 30 mm over the southern agricultural area with possible falls of 30 to 50 mm over the Mount Lofty Ranges and southeast, 5 to 15 mm over the northern agricultural area, and less than 5 mm elsewhere.Sunday until TuesdayIsolated showers over the agricultural area, scattered at first over the southern agricultural area on Sunday morning. Possible thunderstorms and small hail in the far south. Showers easing to isolated and contracting to southern coasts on Monday and Tuesday.
