MELBOURNE - Jun 18/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Strong Wind Warning has been cancelled for the Southeast Gulf of Carpentaria. A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for northeast waters north of Cooktown for Tuesday afternoon. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high [1030hPa] over South Australia is moving slowly east and extends a ridge across southern Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Monday Fine and clear across most of the state, isolated light showers about the northeast tropical coast. Light to moderate SW to SE winds generally, moderate to fresh SE winds over the tropics. Forecast for Tuesday The high is expected to move into southern Queensland or northern N.S.W maintaining dry weather over most of the state. Chilly over the southern, central and southeast interior in the morning with extensive early frost. Isolated showers persisting about the northeast tropical coast. Light winds over southern Queensland, moderate to fresh SE winds across the tropics. Developing strong SE winds about the Northeast tropical coast. Forecast for Wednesday The high cell will enter southeast Queensland and this will generate N'ly wind flow over the interior with warmer temperatures. Early frost now contracting a little over the southern, central and southeast interior. Isolated showers continuing in the northeast tropics with strong SE winds about the coast. Possible isolated showers developing about the central coast. Forecast for Thursday The high moves off the coast with general warmer NW'ly flow over most of the state. A new SW'ly wind change or trough will enter the Channel country late in the day with no weather. Early frost now contracting to the Maranoa and Darling Downs districts. Showers continuing in the northeast tropics and extending further south along the central coast. Forecast for Friday The trough moves across the interior and reaches the southern Gulf and passes through the SE coast with no weather. Minimum temperatures rising to the highest point over southeast Queensland as the change moves through. A little light frost over the Granite Belt. Isolated showers continuing about most of the east coast. Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday The next ridge over higher pressure enters western Queensland and dominates the state with mostly dry weather. The trough will move into the tropics and weaken, contracting showers to the northeast tropical coast. Dry over the interior, chilly in the mornings again with SE to SW winds generally. The cycle repeats again with an expanding early morning frost area over southern, central and southeast Queensland. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Tuesday.
