MELBOURNE - Jun 18/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front will cross southern Victoria overnight then a narrow ridge of high pressure will move eastwards across the State on Tuesday. The next front is expected to reach the southwest Wednesday night, crossing the remainder of the State on Thursday. Another cold front is expected to cross the Southern Ocean on Friday. Forecast for the rest of MondayIsolated showers and drizzle patches becoming more widespread in the southwest tonight. Showers falling as snow above 1600 metres. Mostly cloudy with moderate west to northwest winds, freshening near the coast ahead of a southwest change in the west tonight.Tuesday 19 JuneIsolated showers mainly on and south of the ranges, scattered at first in the east and contracting to the far east by the afternoon. The chance of a light afternoon shower in the northwest but a fine mostly sunny afternoon across central districts. Snowfalls above 1500 metres during the morning. A cool day with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds easing then tending light northerly across western districts during the afternoon.Wednesday 20 JuneA cold start in the east with local frosts or fog. A mainly fine day although the chance of light showers on the northern slopes of the dividing range and in the southwest. A band of rain reaching the southwest at night. A cool to mild and partly cloudy day with moderate north to northwest wind, strengthening over southern and elevated areas during the day.Thursday 21 JuneA band of rain extending eastwards across the State during the morning then easing to scattered showers from the southwest during the afternoon and evening. Snowfalls lowering to 1200 metres and extensive falls likely at Alpine resorts. Cool to cold and cloudy with fresh to locally strong north to northwest wind moderating and tending northwest to westerly.Friday 22 JuneScattered showers in most southern and mountain areas, more isolated in the north and clearing from the Mallee. Snowfalls above 1000 metres.
