Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jun 17/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning is current for Southeast Gulf of
Carpentaria waters for this morning.
A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for northeast waters north of Cooktown for
Tuesday afternoon.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high [1029 hPa] over South Australia is moving slowly east and extends a
ridge across southern Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Fine and sunny across most of the state except for some isolated, mainly
light showers about the Torres Strait Islands and the east coast north of about
Cooktown. Light to moderate SW to SE winds, fresh and gusty at times along the
coast and in the northwest.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high is expected to drift gradually to the east across South Australia,
while maintaining dry and clear conditions across most of Queensland, except for
some isolated, mainly light showers about the Torres Strait Islands and the east
coast north of about Cooktown. Fresh to strong SE winds are expected to develop
about the east coast north of Cape Tribulation late in the day. Widespread
morning frosts over the southeast, central and southern interior.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high is expected to weaken as it drifts eastwards over New South Wales,
but should still be strong enough to push fresh SE winds and isolated showers
across the Torres Strait islands and the east coast north of about Cooktown.
Remaining fine and mostly sunny over the rest of Queensland. Widespread morning
frosts over the southeast, central and southern interior.
Forecast for Thursday
The high is currently expected to remain near the New South Wales coast,
allowing fine, mostly sunny conditions to persist over much of the state, except
for some cloud increasing about the east coast and some isolated, mainly light
showers about the Torres Strait islands and the east coast north of about
Cooktown. Morning frosts over the southeast, central and southern interior.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
A ridge of high pressure over South Australia should push a weak surface
trough across southern Queensland, and the trough may combine with a little
humidity ahead of it to prevent frosts and produce some isolated showers about
the eastern interior late in the week. Dry and cooler conditions are once again
expected to spread across the state in the wake of the trough on Sunday as a new
high pressure system moves east over the Great Australian Bight.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Monday.
