MELBOURNE - Jun 16/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for Southeast Gulf of Carpentaria waters for Monday. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A trough is located off the southern Queensland coast, moving east. A high [1028 hPa] over South Australia is moving slowly east and extends a strengthening ridge over western Queensland. The ridge is spreading drier SW to SE winds across the Queensland interior. Forecast for the rest of Sunday Isolated showers about the east coast north of about Cardwell. Scattered fogs about parts of the east coast and nearby ranges south of about Townsville clearing during the morning. Moderate to fresh and gusty W to SW winds over the southeast. Moderate to fresh SW to SE winds elsewhere, gusty at times in the northwest. Forecast for Monday The high is expected to move across South Australia and continue to circulate dry and cool SW to SE winds across nearly all of the state. Fine and sunny conditions will occur in most areas. The exception will be about the east coast north of about Cooktown where isolated showers will occur in the moist, moderate to fresh SE trade flow. A cool to cold morning in most areas with widespread morning frosts in the southeast, central and southern interior. Forecast for Tuesday The high will continue to move eastwards across New South Wales. Dry and cool SW to SE winds will continue to circulate across nearly all of the state with fine and sunny conditions will occur in most areas. The exception will be about the east coast north about Cairns where isolated showers will occur in the moist moderate to fresh SE trade flow. These winds may become strong at times north of Cairns late in the day. Widespread morning frosts will occur over the southeast, central and southern interior. Forecast for Wednesday The high will move into the Tasman Sea late in the day and will maintain a firm ridge along the east coast. Relatively dry and cool S to SE winds will circulate across nearly all of the state. About the east coast these winds will be moister and as a result isolated showers will spread southwards from the north tropical coast, into most east coast districts. Fine and sunny conditions will continue over the interior of the state. The SE winds will remain fresh to strong along the east coast north of about Cooktown. Widespread morning frosts will again occur over the southeast, central and southern interior. Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday The high will continue to move slowly eastwards across the Tasman Sea during this period. So moderate to fresh SE winds with showers will continue along most of the east tropical coast. Along the southern coast winds will shift to the NE and isolated showers will continue in most areas. The showers along the east coast will spill over in the adjacent inland beginning on Thursday. Most of the interior will continue fine as winds shift to the NE to NW before a new S'ly change which will move across the western half of the state during Friday and Saturday. Conditions will become quite warm over the west of the state before the change. Some morning frosts will continue over most of the central and southern interior on Thursday before increasing moisture leads to milder mornings on Friday and Saturday.
