Carpentaria waters for Monday.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A trough is located off the southern Queensland coast, moving east. A high
[1028 hPa] over South Australia is moving slowly east and extends a
strengthening ridge over western Queensland. The ridge is spreading drier SW to
SE winds across the Queensland interior.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Isolated showers about the east coast north of about Cardwell. Scattered fogs
about parts of the east coast and nearby ranges south of about Townsville
clearing during the morning. Moderate to fresh and gusty W to SW winds over the
southeast. Moderate to fresh SW to SE winds elsewhere, gusty at times in the
northwest.
Forecast for Monday
The high is expected to move across South Australia and continue to circulate
dry and cool SW to SE winds across nearly all of the state. Fine and sunny
conditions will occur in most areas. The exception will be about the east coast
north of about Cooktown where isolated showers will occur in the moist, moderate
to fresh SE trade flow. A cool to cold morning in most areas with widespread
morning frosts in the southeast, central and southern interior.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high will continue to move eastwards across New South Wales. Dry and cool
SW to SE winds will continue to circulate across nearly all of the state with
fine and sunny conditions will occur in most areas. The exception will be about
the east coast north about Cairns where isolated showers will occur in the moist
moderate to fresh SE trade flow. These winds may become strong at times north of
Cairns late in the day. Widespread morning frosts will occur over the southeast,
central and southern interior.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high will move into the Tasman Sea late in the day and will maintain a
firm ridge along the east coast. Relatively dry and cool S to SE winds will
circulate across nearly all of the state. About the east coast these winds will
be moister and as a result isolated showers will spread southwards from the
north tropical coast, into most east coast districts. Fine and sunny conditions
will continue over the interior of the state. The SE winds will remain fresh to
strong along the east coast north of about Cooktown. Widespread morning frosts
will again occur over the southeast, central and southern interior.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
The high will continue to move slowly eastwards across the Tasman Sea during
this period. So moderate to fresh SE winds with showers will continue along most
of the east tropical coast. Along the southern coast winds will shift to the NE
and isolated showers will continue in most areas. The showers along the east
coast will spill over in the adjacent inland beginning on Thursday. Most of the
interior will continue fine as winds shift to the NE to NW before a new S'ly
change which will move across the western half of the state during Friday and
Saturday. Conditions will become quite warm over the west of the state before
the change. Some morning frosts will continue over most of the central and
southern interior on Thursday before increasing moisture leads to milder
mornings on Friday and Saturday.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Sunday.
