MELBOURNE - Jun 16/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system will pass to the south of Tasmania overnight with an associated cold front reaching the far southwest of the State tonight and then move eastwards across southern Victoria early Sunday. A new low pressure system will then developing over the Tasman Sea and move away towards New Zealand on Monday. Meanwhile, a high pressure system will develop over S.A and move across southern NSW to reach the Tasman Sea by Wednesday. A weak front will just brush southern Victoria early Tuesday then another low pressure system will develop south of the Bight by Wednesday. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayPatchy rain over the far northeast. Isolated showers elsewhere on and south of the ranges although more widespread with possible thunderstorms about the southwest and far southern coasts. Snow falls on the ranges above 1400 metres. Remaining dry over the far northwest and far southeast. Moderate to locally fresh northwesterly winds.Sunday 17 JuneEarly morning frost patches in the northeast. Scattered showers in the south and about the ranges and isolated showers extending north of the ranges but remaining dry in the far northwest. Snowfalls above 1500 metres. A cool and mostly cloudy day with moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds extending throughout, strong about the exposed parts of the coast.Monday 18 JuneIsolated showers in southern and mountain areas, becoming more widespread in the southwest late in the day. Snowfalls above 1600 metres. The chance of an afternoon shower extending north of the ranges during the afternoon but remaining dry in the northwest. Cool with moderate southwest to northwest winds, freshening in the southwest later.Tuesday 19 JuneIsolated showers on and south of the ranges, contracting to the far southwest and the east ranges during the morning. A cool to mild day with winds tending light to moderate northwesterly and freshening in the southwest during the afternoon.Wednesday 20 JuneInland frost patches early morning. Isolated showers about the southwest and east ranges. Fine over the remainder.
