Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jun 15/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A low pressure system well south of South Australia is slowly weakening and is expected to pass near the southern tip of Tasmania early Sunday morning. Another low pressure system is expected to form over the Tasman Sea early Sunday and will move towards New Zealand on Monday. A cold front will move from the Southern Ocean to affect southern Victoria on Monday night then a ridge of high pressure will cross Victoria on Tuesday.
Forecast for the rest of SaturdayLocal early fog and frost over the north and east. Patchy rain developing over the northeast, falling as snow above 1400 metres. Scattered showers and possible thunderstorms about the southwest coast. Isolated showers developing over the remainder of southwest Victoria this morning then extending to most other districts during the afternoon and evening, although remaining dry over the far northwest and far southeast. A cool to mild and partly cloudy day with moderate to locally fresh northwesterly winds.Sunday 17 JuneScattered showers in the south and about the ranges and isolated showers over the remainder. Snowfalls above 1500 metres. A cool and mostly cloudy day with moderate to fresh westerly wind, strong about the exposed coast.Monday 18 JuneIsolated showers in southern and mountain areas becoming scattered from the west late in the day. Snowfalls above 1600 metres. Dry in the northwest. Cool with light to moderate westerly winds turning southwest to southerly from the southwest towards evening.Tuesday 19 JuneScattered showers in the east, becoming isolated in the southwest and about the northeast ranges and generally clearing from the west. Winds becoming light and variable.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Saturday.Product IDV10310
