MELBOURNE - Jun 10/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Severe Weather Warning is current for dangerous surf conditions about parts of the Wide Bay and Burnett and Southeast Coast forecast districts. A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters from Gladstone to Point Danger, including Hervey Bay and Moreton Bay. A Gale Warning is current for offshore waters between Sandy Cape and Point Danger. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high [1029 hPa] near Tasmania extends a ridge over the Queensland interior and will continue to move slowly eastwards, entering the southern Tasman Sea during today. A deep trough lies over the Coral Sea. At 4am EST, a low pressure system [1000 hPa] was located on the trough about 350 kilometres east of Sandy Cape and moving southeast. The low is forecast to continue moving southeast and intensify during today, to be located well east of the southeast Queensland coast by tonight. An upper trough over southeast Queensland is expected to pass off the southeast Queensland coast during today. Forecast for the rest of Monday Cloudy and cool with scattered showers and patchy rain over the Southeast Coast and eastern Darling Downs and Granite Belt. Isolated showers over remaining southeast districts. Possible isolated afternoon thunderstorms about the southern border ranges. Fine elsewhere apart from isolated showers along the far northeast coast. Large seas and swells with dangerous surf will affect the coast south from Fraser Island. Moderate SW to SE winds, tending fresh to strong and gusty along the Capricornia and southern Queensland coast. Forecast for Tuesday The low will continue to track away from the far southern coast of Queensland and is likely to deepen further. At the same time the high will track slowly eastwards across the Tasman Sea. The low will continue to produce strong winds about the coast, islands and offshore waters south of about Gladstone, with gales still likely to affect offshore waters south of Sandy Cape for most of the day. Large swells and dangerous surf will occur about the coast south from Fraser Island. Fine and sunny conditions will occur over nearly all of the state, expect for isolated showers about the exposed coast south of Fraser Island and over the far north of Cape York Peninsula. Isolated early morning frosts will occur over parts of the southern interior. Forecast for Wednesday The high over the Tasman Sea will extend a ridge across most of Queensland so fine and sunny conditions will occur in most parts. Isolated showers will occur along the exposed coast south from Fraser Island in the southerly airflow and about northern Cape York Peninsula and through Torres Strait. Large swells and dangerous surf will occur about the coast south from Fraser Island. Some morning frost will occur over parts of the southern and southeast interior. Forecast for Thursday The high over the southern Tasman Sea will continue to extend a ridge across most of Queensland with fine and sunny conditions continuing across a large part of the state. The flow becomes a little more onshore about parts of the east coast and therefore isolated showers are likely to develop about the exposed southern and central coast and islands. Isolated showers will continue about the far north of Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait. Cloud may increase about the far west of the state as a weakening upper trough moves through southeast Australia but no rain is expected. Early frosts are likely about the southern and southeast interior. The large swells and dangerous surf conditions should have now eased about the southern coast, but rough surf may remain. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday A ridge will persist over most of Queensland from the high near New Zealand on Friday whilst a deep low pressure system moves over waters to the south of the Great Australian Bight. The next upper trough is likely to move through southeast Australia over the weekend with a weak surface trough expected to move east across the state. Most of the state should remain fine through the outlook period, although the trough may produce isolated showers across the southern interior over the weekend. The winds about the east coast will also gradually moisten and shift more onshore with isolated showers about the east coast through the outlook period. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Monday. Weather & Warnings Australia New South Wales Victoria Queensland Warnings Summary Forecasts Brisbane Forecast Qld.
