A Gale Warning has been issued for offshore waters between Sandy Cape and Point Danger for Monday. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high [1030 hPa] over the eastern Great Australian Bight extends a ridge over eastern Queensland, and will continue to move slowly eastwards and enter the southern Tasman Sea during Monday. A trough off the southern and central Queensland coast will deepen with a low pressure system forming off the Capricornia coast this morning. The low is forecast to deepen and be located east of Fraser Island by tonight and well seawards of Brisbane by Monday night. An upper trough is intensifying over southern Queensland and expected to pass over southeast Queensland during today and early Monday. Forecast for the rest of Sunday Cloudy with scattered showers, areas of rain and isolated thunderstorms over the eastern Wide Bay and Burnett and Southeast Coast district with moderate to locally heavy falls possible along the coast and over the islands. Scattered showers or patchy rain about the Capricornia, western Burnett and eastern Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the southern and central interior. Isolated showers over the remaining southeast tropics, mainly in the afternoon. Light to moderate SW to SE winds, tending fresh to strong and gusty about the coast south of about Mackay. Forecast for Monday The upper trough will move off the coast of Queensland while the high will move into the Tasman Sea. The low will deepen further and move to the east southeast away from the coast. The low will produce strong to gale force winds about the coast, islands and offshore waters south from about Gladstone. The cloud band with patchy rain and showers will contract into the far southeast by late in the day. Isolated showers and possible storms will persist about the parts of the southeast in the wake of the cloud band. Fine and sunny conditions will continue elsewhere over the state. Large swells and rough surf will affect the coast south from Fraser Island. Forecast for Tuesday The low will continue to track away from the far southern coast of Queensland and may deepen further. At the same time the high will track slowly eastwards across the Tasman Sea. The low will continue to produce strong winds about the coast, islands and offshore waters south of about Gladstone, with gales still likely to affect offshore waters south of Sandy Cape for most of the day. Fine and sunny conditions will occur over nearly all of the state. The exception will be about the exposed coast south from Fraser Island where isolated showers will occur in the S'ly winds. Large swells and dangerous surf will occur about the coast south from Fraser Island. Isolated showers over the far northeast coast. Morning frost will occur over parts of the southern interior. Forecast for Wednesday The high over the Tasman Sea will extend a ridge across most of Queensland so fine and sunny conditions will occur in most parts. Isolated showers will occur along the exposed coast south from Fraser Island in the S'ly airflow and about northern Cape York Peninsula and through Torres Strait. Large swells and dangerous surf will occur about the coast south from Fraser Island. Some morning frost will occur over parts of the southern and southeast interior. Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday A ridge will persist over most of Queensland from the high near New Zealand as a deep low pressure system moves over waters to the south of the Great Australian Bight. So fine and sunny conditions will occur in most areas. The winds about the east coast will gradually moisten and shift more onshore so that by Friday isolated showers will occur in most areas. These showers will then spread into the eastern interior on Saturday as the ridge weakens and the winds across the state shift to the E to NE. High cloud will affect the west of the state on Thursday but with no rain expected. Rough surf along the southern Queensland coast easing. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Sunday. Weather & Warnings Australia New South Wales Victoria Queensland Warnings Summary Forecasts Brisbane Forecast Qld.
