MELBOURNE - Jun 9/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters from
Mackay to Cape Moreton including Hervey Bay.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high [1033 hPa] over the eastern Great Australian Bight is moving slowly
eastwards and extended a ridge across Queensland. A surface trough off the
southern and central Queensland coast will continue to deepen as an upper trough
moves across southern Queensland and the moves off the coast on Monday. A
surface low will form in the trough off the Capricornia coast by late this
evening. This low will be located seawards of Fraser Island by late Sunday and
well seawards of Brisbane by late Monday.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Isolated showers and/or storms over the south-east of the state. Fine
elsewhere over the state. Light to moderate S to SE winds over the state
becoming fresh to strong about the coast south of Bowen.
Forecast for Sunday
The high will continue to move slowly eastwards to the west of tasmania while
the upper trough will move into the south-east of the state. Conditions will
become cloudy over the far south-east of the state with patchy rain areas and
showers. Isolated showers and/or storms will occur over remaining areas of the
south-east. Fine and sunny conditions will continue elsewhere over the state.
Light to moderate S to SE winds will continue across most of the state and will
be fresh in the morning about the Gulf country. The low off the southern coast
will continue to deepen and will produce fresh to strong winds about the coast
south of about Mackay.
Forecast for Monday
The upper trough will move off the coast of Queensland while the high will
move into the Tasman Sea. The low will deepen further and move to the east
south-east away from the coast. The low will produce strong to gale force winds
about the coast, islands and offshore waters south from about Gladstone. The
cloud band with patchy rain and showers will contract into the far south-east by
late in the day. Isolated showers and possible storms will persist about the
parts of the south-east in the wake of the cloud band. Fine and sunny conditions
will continue elsewhere over the state. Large swells and powerful surf will
begin to affect the coast south from Fraser Island.
Forecast for Tuesday
The low will continue to track away from the far southern coast of Queensland
and may deepen further. At the same time the high will track slowly eastwards
across the Tasman Sea. The low will continue to produce strong winds about the
coast, islands and offshore waters south of about Gladstone or Town of 1770. May
still see some gales in the offshore waters in the morning. Fine and sunny
conditions will occur over nearly all of the state. The exception will be about
the exposed coast south from Fraser Island where isolated showers will occur in
the S'ly winds. Large swells and dangerous surf will occur about the coast south
from Fraser Island. Morning frost will occur over parts of the south-east
inland.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high over the Tasman Sea will extend a ridge across most of Queensland so
fine and sunny conditions will occur in most parts. Isolated showers will occur
along the exposed coast south from Fraser Island in the S'ly airflow and will
redevelop again about northern Cape York Peninsula and through Torres Strait.
Some morning frost will occur over parts of the south-east inland.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
Ridging will persist over most of Queensland from the high near New Zealand
as a deep low pressure system over waters to the south of the Great Australian
Bight. So fine and sunny conditions will occur in most areas. The winds about
the east coast will gradually moisten and shift more onshore so that by Friday
isolated showers will occur in most areas. These showers will then spread into
the eastern interior on Saturday as the ridge weakens and the winds across the
state shift to the E to NE.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Sunday.
