MELBOURNE - Jun 8/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for coastal waters from Bowen to Double Island Point, including Hervey Bay. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high [1033 hPa] over the eastern Great Australian Bight is moving slowly eastwards and extends a ridge over Queensland. A surface trough off the central Queensland coast is expected to deepen during Saturday with a low expected to form off the Capricornia coast late in the day. An upper level trough lies across southern Queensland and is expected to strengthen today. Forecast for the rest of Saturday Isolated showers and storms over the southern and central interior, and over most of the coastal districts south of Bowen, though with more widespread showers tending to periods of thundery rain about the southeast coast. Fine and sunny over the remainder of the state. Light to moderate S to SE winds, fresh at times about the central and Capricornia coasts. Forecast for Sunday The high should lie near Tasmania while the upper trough should strengthen over Queensland's southern interior, producing isolated showers and storms over the southern and central interior, and also over the southeast tropics. Isolated showers over the southeast interior, more widespread showers tending to rain at times with some moderate falls possible about the Southeast and Wide Bay coasts. Fine and sunny over the remainder of the state, with some isolated areas of morning frost possible about the southeast interior. A deepening low should move southeast off the Capricornia and Wide Bay coast, producing gusty winds between Bowen and Double Island Point. Forecast for Monday The upper trough is expected to move off the southeast coast, but some patches of early morning rain are possible about the southeast coast district during the morning, before breaking up to showers during the day. The low pressure system should intensify into a strong system as it tracks along, but off, the southeast coast, producing strong and gusty southerly winds and powerful surf along the coast south of Sandy Cape. Fine and sunny elsewhere, and some areas of morning frost about parts of the central and southern interior. Forecast for Tuesday The low is still expected to be strong, but should move away from the southeast coast. The low will nonetheless still push strong winds and dangerous surf onto the coast south of Sandy Cape, along with some mainly isolated showers over parts of the southeast coast. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere, and areas of morning frost about the central and southern interior. Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday The low should be well off the southeast coast by the middle of the week, but will nonetheless work with a ridge of high pressure over southeast Australia to push some fresh to strong southerly winds along the southeast coast. The low should also continue to push powerful surf towards Queensland's southeast coast. The ridge should remain over southeast Australia, pushing dry air across Queensland during the latter part of the week and keeping Queensland fine and mostly sunny, though with areas of morning frost about the southeast and central interior. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Saturday. Weather & Warnings Australia New South Wales Victoria Queensland Warnings Summary Forecasts Brisbane Forecast Qld.
