MELBOURNE - Jun 7/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Nil. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high [1032hPa] in the eastern Great Australian Bight is slowly moving eastwards and extends a ridge through western Queensland. An upper trough lies across southern Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Friday Fine and mostly sunny across most of the state, although high cloud will drift across central areas. Isolated showers about the southern coast, tending scattered about the exposed coast and islands. Isolated showers will extend northwards to exposed parts of the central coast during the day. Isolated early morning frost patches about the southern and southeast interior. Light to moderate S to SE winds, fresh at times about the western districts and the east coast. Forecast for Saturday The high should remain in the eastern Great Australian Bight. The upper trough is forecast to develop further over southern and central Queensland with increasing instability across the eastern parts of the state. A surface trough is likely to develop off the central coast in response to the upper trough. This will result in scattered showers developing about the southern and central coasts. Isolated showers will also develop about the central and southern interior. Fine and mostly sunny over western and northern districts. Isolated early morning frost patches remain possible through the southern and southeast interior. Forecast for Sunday The high is expected to move close to Tasmania while the upper trough is expected to move eastwards into the southeast of the state and intensify. The surface trough on the central coast is likely to move southeastwards and develop in to a low off the Fraser Coast during the day. Scattered showers and rain areas are expected about the Southeast Coast and Wide Bay districts with possible thunderstorms due to the increasing instability. Isolated showers are expected about the central east coast and through the central and southern interior. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state, with only isolated showers possible about the northeast tropical coast. Early morning frost is possible about the Granite Belt. Forecast for Monday The upper trough should move eastwards and off the southeast coast during Monday. The upper trough is likely to cause the surface low to deepen further and move southeast to lie off the southeast coast. The high pressure system will move into the southern Tasman Sea. The combination of the two systems will cause strong to gale force south to southeast winds to develop along the south coast, mainly south of Fraser Island. Scattered showers and rain areas with possible thunderstorms are likely about the far southeast of the state. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms are expected through the Darling Downs and Wide Bay districts. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere, except for isolated showers over the Cape York Peninsula. Early frosts about the central and southern interior. Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday The low off the southeast coast should continue to move eastwards whilst the high should continue to move eastwards across the Tasman Sea. Strong southerly winds are likely to continue about the east coast south of Gladstone on Tuesday and Wednesday, directing scattered showers onto the exposed southern coast and isolated showers over the southeast interior. The strong southerly winds should ease during Thursday with the showers in the southeast contracting offshore. The remainder of the state should be fine and mostly sunny throughout the outlook period. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Friday.
