MELBOURNE - Jun 6/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning is current for waters from Sandy Cape
to Point Danger, excluding Moreton Bay.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high in the Southern Ocean is weakening as it drifts gradually
northeastwards towards Victoria. A low over the southern Coral Sea is moving
eastwards away from the Queensland coast and is pushing a trough northwards
through the central coast of Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Fine and mostly sunny across most of the state except for some isolated
showers about the southeast and the northern parts of the Peninsula district.
Early morning frost areas about the central and southern interior, parts of the
northwest. Light to moderate S to SE winds, fresh at times about the northwest
and the southeast coast. Strong winds and large swells about the southeast coast
should gradually decrease during the day.
Forecast for Friday
The high should lie over the eastern reaches of the Great Australian Bight
and extend a ridge over most of Queensland. Most of the state should be fine and
mostly sunny except for mainly isolated showers about the southeast and central
coasts. Early morning frost areas are expected about the central and southern
interior and, parts of the northwest. Light to moderate S to SE winds, fresh at
times about the western districts and the east coast. The large swells over
southern waters will continue to decrease.
Forecast for Saturday
The high should remain in the eastern Great Australian Bight while an upper
trough is forecast to develop over southern Queensland. Instability will
subsequently increase through the southeastern corner of the state with
scattered showers expected near the coast with isolated showers extending to the
southeast interior. Isolated showers are also expected along the remainder of
the east coast. Early frost patches remain likely through the southern and
southeast interior and the northwest of the state.
Forecast for Sunday
The high should remain in the eastern Great Australian Bight and the upper
trough should remain over Queensland's southern interior. These weather systems
should work together to produce scattered showers about the Southeast Coast and
Wide Bay districts and isolated showers about the remainder of the east coast.
Isolated showers are also likely to develop about the central and southern
interior. Fine over the remainder of the state. Early morning frost is again
likely about the northwest of the state and about parts of the southeast
interior.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
The high is expected to slip eastwards into the Tasman Sea on Monday and the
move southeast across the Tasman Sea while weakening. The upper trough will most
likely move eastwards and may cause an area of low pressure to form off the
southeast Queensland coast on Monday. Most of the state will remain fine during
the outlook period but showers are likely to continue about the southeast of the
state on Monday and Tuesday due to the upper trough.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Thursday.
