MELBOURNE - Jun 5/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure trough lies over the western Tasman Sea. Within this trough two small, deep low pressure systems have formed, one near the south coast and another to the east of Lord Howe Island. The low pressure system near the coast is expected to move northwards during the day and weaken, while another low pressure system may develop further offshore within the broader trough. The low pressure system near the coast is likely to bring squally winds and possibly heavy rainfall to the southern and central coasts and eastern parts of the ranges as it moves northwards today. The trough is expected to move rapidly away from the coast during Wednesday as a high pressure system moves south of the Bight extending a ridge into the west of the state. The high pressure ridge should strengthen during the week and the high pressure system is expected to be centred near Tasmania over the weekend. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayRain on the south coast and adjacent ranges, heavy at times, easing to showers by the afternoon. Snow developing on the Alps above about 1500 metres. Rain extending to central parts of the coast and ranges during the day, possibly heavy at times. Scattered showers about the western slopes of the ranges and developing over the Northern Tablelands where snow is likely on higher parts, easing later. Isolated showers over the western half clearing and possible isolated afternoon showers along the north coast. Westerly winds tending fresh to strong southerly over southern, western and central districts, and reaching gale force along the coast and locally about the ranges. Dangerous surf conditions developing.Wednesday 6 JuneIsolated showers coast and adjacent ranges tending scattered near the central coast. Partly cloudy elsewhere. Southerly winds gradually easing along the coast.Thursday 7 JuneIsolated coastal showers clearing from the south. Mostly sunny remainder.
