MELBOURNE - Jun 3/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure trough over Queensland and eastern New South Wales will extend southwards today with a low pressure system expected to form just east of Victoria tonight. The low is expected to intensify Sunday night and Monday before moving away to the east on Tuesday. A large high pressure system south of Western Australia is moving only slowly eastwards and will cross waters well south of the Bight during Wednesday maintaining a southerly airflow across Victoria. Forecast for the rest of SundayRain in East Gippsland increasing during the afternoon and evening. Scattered showers near the coast. Isolated showers developing over most remaining districts, but dry over the far northwest. Isolated thunderstorms in the southwest clearing later in the day. Snowfalls on the alpine peaks. Cool with moderate to fresh southeast to southerly winds.Monday 4 JuneWidespread rain over Gippsland with local heavy falls. Scattered showers over most remaining districts and snowfalls on the Alpine peaks. Cool with moderate to fresh southeasterly winds, strong at times near the coast and possibly reaching gale force about the Alps.Tuesday 5 JuneRain areas over the southeast easing to showers. Isolated showers over remaining districts but clearing north of the dividing range by midday. Snowfalls above 1300 metres. Cool to cold with fresh to strong south to southeasterly winds.Wednesday 6 JuneIsolated showers over southern and mountain districts, mostly near the coast. Fine over the north.
