Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high [1029 hPa] near New Zealand is expected to continue weakening during today. An upper level trough over southwest Queensland is expected to move slowly east-southeast today. Forecast for the rest of Saturday Cloudy with scattered showers, rain areas and isolated thunderstorms over the central and southern interior, increasing over southeast districts during the day. Moderate to locally heavy falls. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the northern and eastern tropics. Cloudy with isolated showers and drizzle over the far southwest. A cool day. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over the east of the state, fresh at times about the coast. Light to moderate SW to SE winds over the west of the state. Forecast for Sunday The upper trough will drift eastwards across the Channel Country while the associated surface trough will move into the eastern interior. As a result the area of showers, rain and storms with moderate to locally heavy falls will contract onto east coastal districts south of about Mackay by late evening. Isolated showers or thunderstorms will continue over the far north of the state. Cloudy with isolated showers and morning drizzle areas over the southwest and southern interior in the wake of the rain band. In the wake of the trough, cool W to SW winds will circulate across most of the state. Forecast for Monday The cloud and rain band will move off the east coast very early while a low deepens near the coast of New South Wales. In the wake of this clearance cool to cold SW to SE winds will spread across most of the state. However, isolated showers will continue about the east coast north of Cardwell and over far northern Cape York Peninsula. Over the southern inland districts, winds will be moist and low level cloud with showers or drizzle will occur. Forecast for Tuesday The low will deepen off the New South Wales coast and will circulate cool SW to SE winds across nearly all of the state. So conditions will be fine in most areas. However, again these winds will be moist over the southern and south-east inland and some low level cloud with showers or drizzle will occur. Isolated showers will continue over far northern Cape York Peninsula and through Torres strait. Some strong W to SW winds will develop in offshore waters south from Double Island Point. Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday A deep low off the New South Wales coast will move away to the south-east as a new high becomes established over the eastern Great Australian Bight and south-eastern Australia. This high will circulate mostly dry SW to SE winds across the state during this period. At best only isolated showers will develop by late in the period about the exposed coast and islands south of Fraser Island and along the east coast north of about Cooktown. Conditions will remain cool in most areas with scattered frosts occurring over the south-east, southern and central interior and the south-east tropics. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Saturday. Weather & Warnings Australia New South Wales Victoria Queensland Warnings Summary Forecasts Brisbane Forecast Qld.
