Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jun 1/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high [1033 hPa] over the Tasman Sea is expected to weaken as it drifts
eastwards over the next few days. An upper level trough near the south-west
border of Queensland is expected to move slowly eastwards.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Cloudy with scattered showers, rain areas and isolated thunderstorms over
much of the central and southern interior and the south-east. Some moderate to
locally heavy falls possible. Showers over remaining east coast districts with
isolated showers and storms over the eastern tropical interior. Fine elsewhere.
Moderate to fresh E to SE winds along the east coast. Moderate E to NE winds
over the interior shifting SW to S over the far west of the state.
Forecast for Saturday
The high will weaken further near New Zealand while the upper trough will
persist over the south-west of the state. Further showers, rain and isolated
storms will occur over the central and southern interior and the south-east of
the state. Again a good scattering of moderate falls and isolated heavy falls
will occur in these areas. Showers will occur over remaining east coast
districts while isolated showers and storms will occur over the eastern
interior. Fine and cool conditions will spread across most of the west of the
state. Light to moderate NE winds will occur over the south-east of the state
and shift to the SW to SE over the west of the state. Moderate SE winds will
continue over the far north of the state.
Forecast for Sunday
The upper trough will drift eastwards across the Channel Country while the
associated surface trough will move into the eastern interior. As a result the
area of showers, rain and storms will contract onto east coastal districts south
of about Townsville by late evening. Isolated showers and or storms will
continue over the far north of the state. In the wake of the trough cool W to SW
winds will circulate across the state.
Forecast for Monday
The cloud and precipitation band will move off the coast early while complex
low development occurs over and off the coast of New South Wales. In the wake of
this clearance cool to cold SW to SE winds will spread across most of the state.
However, isolated showers will continue about the east coast north of Cardwell
and over far northern Cape York Peninsula. Over southern inland districts the
winds will be moist and some low level cloud with drizzle will occur in the
afternoon.
Forecast for Tuesday
The low complex will deepen off the New South Wales coast and will circulate
cool SW to SE winds across nearly all of the state. So conditions will be fine
in most areas. However, again these winds will be moist over the southern and
south-east inland and some low level cloud with drizzle will develop in the
afternoon. Isolated showers will continue over far northern Cape York Peninsula
and through Torres strait. Some strong W to SW winds will develop in offshore
waters south from Double Island Point.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
A deep low off the New South Wales coast will move away to the south-east as
a new high becomes established over the eastern Great Australian Bight and
south-eastern Australia. This high will circulate mostly dry Sw to SE winds
across the state during this period. At best only isolated showers will develop
by late in the period about the exposed coast and islands south of Fraser Island
and along the east coast north of about Cooktown. Conditions will remain cool in
most areas with scattered frosts occurring over the south-east, southern and
central interior and the south-east tropics.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Saturday.
