MELBOURNE - May 25/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A deep low pressure system over Bass Strait south of Wilsons Promontory will move steadily southeastwards past the east coast of Tasmania tonight then away across the south Tasman Sea during the weekend. The next high pressure system will move over Bight waters on Sunday and extend a ridge across Victoria on Monday. The high will still be located just west of the State on Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of FridayRain with locally heavy falls over central Victoria contracting to the east tonight and easing. Isolated showers over the west. Snow above 1100 metres on the mountains. Cold, fresh to strong west to southwest wind extending throughout and reaching gale force near the Central and Gippsland coast.Saturday 26 MayRain areas in the east, easing to showers during the morning. Scattered showers persisting on and south of the ranges and isolated showers mostly clearing over the northern inland. Snowfalls contracting from 1200 metres to above 1500 metres on the ranges. Cool with fresh to strong and squally west to southwest winds, reaching gale force at first along the Gippsland coast but easing from the west during the day.Sunday 27 MayIsolated showers on and south of the ranges, scattered about the coast and over Gippsland. Showers falling a snow on the ranges above 1600 metres. Cool with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, strong at times about the Gippsland coast.Monday 28 MayLocal early fog patches inland. Isolated showers persisting in southern areas but fine over the northern plains. Cool and partly cloudy with light to moderate south to southwest winds.Tuesday 29 MayLocal early fog patches inland. Isolated showers in southern areas but fine over the northern plains.
