MELBOURNE - May 25/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front over northeast New South Wales will move to the Tasman Sea tonight, with cooler westerly winds in its wake. Meanwhile a complex low pressure system to the south is intensifying near Bass Strait, before moving towards the southeast during the weekend. This low will direct more cold air across the state during Saturday with some showers persisting about the southern inland, assisted by the presence of an upper-level trough. As the low moves further away from the region on Sunday, a high pressure system in the Bight will gradually extend a ridge over New South Wales, promoting fine conditions in all but the coastal parts. The high should strengthen and move slowly east during the early part of the new week, being the major influence on the weather over New South Wales. Forecast for the rest of FridayRain areas in the northeast, clearing. Scattered showers over the southern inland, more widespread about the western slopes of the ranges, with possible thunder and small hail. Snow on the Alps to about 1000 metres, and snow flurries possible above 1200 metres on western parts of the Central Tablelands later. Isolated showers about the central inland and on the south coast. Southwest to northwesterly winds turning, fresh to strong about parts of the south and east.Saturday 26 MayIsolated showers over the southern inland, more widespread near the western slopes of the ranges. Fine for the remainder, and mostly sunny in the north. Cold, fresh and gusty west to southwesterly winds, strong to gale force in the southeast at first.Sunday 27 MayIsolated showers on coastal districts, more likely in the Port Stephens area, and about the far southern ranges. Early frost patches about the ranges and slopes. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Southwest to southeasterly winds, fresh and gusty near the coast.Monday 28 MayIsolated coastal showers, clearing from the south, more likely in the Port Stephens area.
